The Nintendo E3 experience at Best Buy was great for playing their newly unveiled games, but I also managed to leak out some tidbits from the Nintendo rep hehe. Of course, he's just a representative and not Nintendo itself, but surely he knows much more than we do on what Nintendo's up to. His vague and dodgey responses sure hinted that he knows more than what he's telling hehe. Anywho, I had asked about how Mario Kart 8 will stack up the others in the series, and he said it will be the largest one yet. I had then asked if it will be bigger than MKWii, and he said it most definitely will be. So naturally that means more characters and likely more Kart customizations, but could that also mean more cups, which would equate to more tracks? I'd sure hope so!
Another thing worth mentioning about MK8 is that Nintendo is clearly against snaking. While I was trying to do it (and failing), the rep said we're making sure snaking never comes back by keeping power boosting automatic, shortening the width of the tracks and reducing straightaways. That last bit was my main issue when trying to snake. There was simply never an oppurtunity to do it as there's just too much going on with the tracks, atleast with the three that were in the demo. The main thing we can take from this, is that Nintendo is well aware of the issues snaking causes and is working to make sure it can never be abused again. Even if it is possible to snake to your advantage currently in MK8, you can bet it will be nerfed to where it doesn't help you in the final game.
Also, I asked the Nintendo rep if they were gonna do something like this again next year, and he said definitely as this'll be Nintendo's new thing they do at E3 from now on. I don't know about you all, but I don't care if Nintendo if never has a press conference again! As long as they keep giving us average joes a chance to experience E3, then I'm more than happy!
Lastly, once the event was over and while I was sticking around chatting with rep, I asked if the Wii U we played on had the all the demos on a disc or something, and he said there's no disk, and infact, this Wii U doesn't even have a disk drive at all. I was like lol whut? He then opened up the cabinet thing the Wii U was sitting on and revealed all this gadgets and gizmos. It apparently takes all that stuff to get the demos to work properly, and even then, we still had some random freezes and resets. Apparently it's also confidential stuff that I shouldn't have seen, but eh, it's not like I knew what any of that stuff was. But yeah, this further explains why there's no eShop demos of the E3 games, though of course people will still whine about this anyway lol. I wanted to ask more of course but the guy was packing up (that's why he opened the cabinet) and I didn't wanna bother him further, especially since he was an uber cewl guy. I hope I see him again next year! ^_^
