idk really with their other games. thats why i think they might add it in the future.

and about making ppl happy ... what about companies like ea ? 
worst company us , ppl bitching about them, nobody likes them and are not happy about many decisions.
still they are one of the biggest publishers with one of the highest profit.
its because there are ppl who think the games are good, but arent happy about things like origin or online passes or shutting down their mp servers after 2years and many more.
as long companies are making money they dont really care about making everyone 100% happy, just happy enough to sell their games.

you also said you arent happy about this, but still would get the game, so mission accomplished by nintendo.

dont get me wrong, i agree with you that this is not good and it should have online, because its just adding many  good things too it.
idk really why nintendo decided against it. it wouldnt make the game worse at all.
just guessing on my part. and yes im not 100% happy, but will still get the game, because it will still be great.

havent toucht my ps360 since i got it, not even thinking about getting games like the last of us ...

In time, namely when MK8 comes out. It would only collect dust if I got it now. :L

EA must be making people happy, as why else would one buy their games or any game for that matter? Their games must be worth all the anti-consumer stuffs. Perhaps having online multiplayer is part of the reason for this lol! Also, if Nintendo really only cared about sales, they'd do away with local multiplayer all together and go with online MP only. That way, if people want to play together, they'd have to buy their own systems and games. Thankfully, Nintendo cares about more than just sales, and knows that quality games will give you more sales.

I did say I'd get the game, but that was before I knew about it's lack of online. Now it's much less likely I'll get it, as I said somewhere on this thread. That slim chance of getting it comes from me holding out until my situation changes, a.k.a. I have people to play it with. If there's no one I'd wanna play it with, then I'll probably never get around to getting this game.

Wow, I hadn't even thought about online multiplayer until this thread brought it up; I guess I never expected it. I suppose I take for granted that I've got a gang of friends that are willing to play the NSMB games where I live. It would have been a nice feature for those that don't.

excuses. Nothing more. It's 2013. Games have been online for over a decade now. I have a pretty hard time believing the tech isn't there. It'll still be fun, but that could have been a MAJOR selling point.

This surprises me as much as when the sun rises in the morning and sets at night.

Count me on that Miiverse post too, as I'm in a situation that I'm unable to make funds to aquire the WiiU at this time. Hopefully when I'm out of this mess (very soon, I hope) that I got myself into, I'll be beamed up on Miiverse! ;)

I will say this, I actually defended Nintendo for this type of decision before NSMBU was released. But after what that game could dowith Miiverse, I can't see why future releases can't go any further with online. Wether it's the main series 3D or 2D and in between.

The big catch of 3D world is the mutliplayer, but limiting it to only local is a bad idea. Maybe servers are too costly? Nintendo does have free online after all. And these servers are expected to run a lonngggg time.

To be honest, I pondered this myself ever since Microsoft came with it on the Xbox. I expected Sony would do this for the PS4 (hopefully not as bad as XboxLive's pay wall), but I'm still surprised that Nintendo did not implement this tactic. Those servers are not paying for themselves...
