If they don t drop the price by Nov 2013 then Nintendo is plain obstinate. I already own a Wii U so the future price won t directly effect me- but I would def like to see the user base get bigger to attract more games- if the install base remains low even Nintendo will put less resources in the Wii U much less 3rd parties.
It really seems Nintendo is jut not that concerned w the Wii U- its like they wrote it off before it ever got going. They are pumping lots of resources into the 3ds and are proud of its performance- but they seem to be putting the bare minimum in the Wii U-
There is no question if I was in the market for a console today and had been considering a Wii u- this would be the news cause me to comit to getting a PS4- $50 more, a lot more value and a company that is clearly putting a ton of blood sweat and dollars into its future.
Seriously, to ps4, it's only $50 less. Xbox one, ya I agree. It needs a price cut this holiday.

Obviously they are going to drop the price, but they announce it now, before the fall lineup arrives, it won't create much momentum. Also, it would make Wii U sales even worse until it happens.

Add me! :)
why do people keep saying there's a $50 difference between wii u and ps4 when the difference is $100?
tell me what, if ps4 had two SKUs, one at 399 and the other at 499 and wii u had only one SKU priced at 299, would you say the difference is $100 or $200? obviously 100.
Now about the price drop, obviously he wouldn't mention it now and i totaly see the basic getting discontinued and the deluxe being reduced to anywhere in the range of $249-$299, with NL pre installed on the hardware. And no matter what haters say, wii u is gonna have more value then the competitors for a while. at the end of he year it will be cheaper then ps4/xone and have many quality titles available while the others will only have their launch lineups without many titles worth purchasing the system. Also no whining is gonna change the fact wii u isn't far behind in hardware and as far as I know, if consumers cared about what's inside a console, ps3 would have been the most successfull console ever.
lmao, good luck to them

So bare minimum = mario 3d world, donkey kong, mario kart, bayonetta 2, X, smash bros, wind waker remake, pikmin3, W 101, luigi u, sonic lw, mario and sonic, wii fit u, wii party u. and those are the exclusives, the console is still getting splinter cell, watch dogs, AC4, Batman, Rayman, Call of retrocess ghosts, Skylanders and other lesser apealing titles. it's a pretty solid lineup for the rest of the year and an already killer lineup for 2014 with mario kart keeping the holiday momentum with it's Q1 release.
If it were up to me, I would have the R&D group at least looking into making a cheap storage updrade. Scratch that useless 8Gb and 32GB. Start investing in some cheap HDD based models.
4 ≈ One
They'll drop the price of both SKUs by $50 in August. It's not a great idea for Nintendo to say they're going to do this a couple of months before they actually do it because nobody would buy a Wii U between now and then.
You'll end up seeing the Basic SKU for $249.99 and the Premium SKU for $299.99 in August or at the very latest in September. They need to do it before shops order their stock for the Black Friday and Christmas shopping seasons.
Maybe this Oct/Nov Nintendo will re-bundle their existing premium and basic into one 32GB package, along with an installed version of NSMBWiiU along with NintendoLand for $349.99. They should also release installed demos of MK8, Bayo2, X etc on the system to increase awareness of those games. It would eliminate the need for a price-cut and allow them to sell the system profitably. If they are to do this they really need to up their marketing to stand a chance against the upcoming magic boxes from MS and Sony.
