Forums - Sales - Pokemon Sales (B/W vs. D/P)

In light of the Pokemon X/Y E3 announcements ,which got me really hyped, I was curious to see how Black and White stacked up to Diamond and Pearl sales wise.

Looking at the graph shows that B/W actually had a much bigger opening during the first year. Now this is probably due to the install base being larger at the release of B/W compared to D/P. But in the long run this hurt B/W due to the DS losing steam and falling out of relevency. This is shown in the graph as B/W's "legs" really died off quickly. Now how do you guys think X/Y will fair? I think it will open (first 52 weeks due to international release)  inbetween the 2 DS titles and end at around 16 million lifetime.

Impressive, Diamond was better than B/W imo.

Pokemon B/W in Europe sold terribad because of piracy.

Not even kidding. If you look at the europe DS software sales in 2011 they plummet. R4 was super-wide spread.

B/W sold less than a million in all of europe. (Vgchartz numbers) D/P sold more than 4 million.

Black/White 2 might have something to do with B/W losing steam as well

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I am super excited about pokemon x and y. I was never like this and i blame it all on the brilliant pokemon black 2.
The black and white games might have sold less but they are definitly the best pokemon games.

If my excitement was anything to go by, i would predict it to become at least the second best selling gen after the first. Of course, assuminv that there are no nasty surprises and the game keeps the same level of quality from the black/white games.

Well that explains it, I that it was weird how horrid europe sales were. If it weren't for piracy then both would be pretty close!

It isn't piracy. It's VGChartz' odd tracking between what is Europe and what is "rest of the world".

No Pokemon game has sold more than 1 million in "rest of the world", barring Black/White. Yet Black/White sold 3.14 million in "rest of the world" and just 0.58 million in Europe. Meanwhile, the sequel, Black and White 2, sold 1.17 million in Europe (double of Black/White) and just 0.37 million in "rest of the world".

Piracy has nothing to do with it. That would make the enourmous increase with Black/White 2 make even less sense. It's simply VGChartz' having confused its numbers for what is Europe and what is rest of the world somehow.

Ooh, I see it now. The numbers for what is "Rest of the world" and what is "Europe" are simply swapped. Just check the yearly charts for Europe - Pokemon Black/White passes 2.5 million in 2011 on that. There's some weird bug there too, though, as in 2012, it turns into being simply "Pokemon Black version", and the numbers still never reach up to 3.14 million.

In other words, the Pokemon Black/White numbers in Europe are a complete mess. They're definitely supposed to be over 2.5 million, though.

Piracy has absolutely nothing to do with it.

B/W had a better opening because it changed a lot of things as well, not just the bigger install base imo. I think X/Y will be in between both as you said, but has a chance to top B/W. It's the biggest leap for Pokemon in a while. I think it will kill in Japan!
