Hell yeah! Looks really awesome :)

I just have one question: can I play this without the stupid motion controls? Logic says yes because the game is on the Wii U, but I just want to be sure

Yes, you can.

I for one will be sticking with the Wiimote and Nunchuk though; beating up the bosses/end barrels and pounding the ground by "drumming" them was just too damn satisfying.

Great!

I was originally very disappointed with this game, but after my "nerd rage" faded away and after seeing gameplay videos and people's reactions to the Best Buy demos, the game has grown on me and now I think it looks amazing!

I does'nt matter how great this game turns out to be, I think I'll forerver hate this game for what it represents to me. Wich is the biggest gaming related disapointment that I've ever had to go thru and a waste of talent from the ppl who gave us Metroid Prime.

I don't see how it's a waste. Their talent looks like it will be well used to create the kind of game only Retro makes.

I'll tell you why. After 3years of total silence ppl were eagerly waiting what one of Nintendo's top developer was working on. Rumor started flowing, Metroid Prime4, Star Fox, F-zero, New IP. They hired ppl from Naughty Dog and Crytek. Rumors were saying that their next project that may I remember you is 3years into the making was extremely ambitious... And now we realise that it's a sidescroller game?! Who in there right mind would be seriously able to agree that a sidscroller DK game is ambitious and better news than MP4 or Star Fox? I was expecting some immersive world with some hardcore action and new experiences that only WiiU could offer. Instead we get this game that if you take away the HD graphics could as well have been on the Wii. With most likely as kiddie simplistic story and gameplay that consist of going from left to right till you reach the end of the level... Total contrast of what any gamer in their right mind would be hoping for.

''Their talent looks like it will be well used to create the kind of game only Retro makes.'' I'm not sure I follow what your saying here. Are you saying that in Nintendo's dev teams only Retro can make 2D platformers? Litteraly anyone inside Nintendo can do 2D platformers. We already had NSMBU last year, NSLU really soon and Yarn Yoshi eventualy. W/o mentioning all the previous games on 3DS/DS/Wii like the dozen of Kirby games we had in the last 4years. Also what does all these games have in common with DKCTB other than it's a sidescroller? They are all kiddy with a embarassing simplistic story rated for Everyone. (I'm not saying that it's a kid game tho, DKCR was way to hard for kids lol) I don't understand how you can say that this is a game that only Retro makes because that is exactly my point, IT'S NOT. Metroid Prime was a game that ONLY Retro makes, a core mature game with immersive world. This DK game is just like SOOOO MANY other Nintendo games.

I know this decision was made a long time ago, but I can't see how ppl at Nintendo could possibly say ''hmmm, what could possibly convince ppl into buying our next gen console?.. I know! A other Donkey Kong game! That will certainly showcase our next gen console's power!''

DK64 was extremely ambitious for it's time, if it was a 3D DK game like DK64, with a huge overworld, that may would have been able to convince me. But Retro making a sidescroller is as waste as NaugthyDog making a game like Pupeteer2.

My kind of game. This will be the first game I grab when I get a Wii U in 2014.

If Xbox is the shooterbox, Wii is the platformerbox.

No idea what makes Playstation. The moviebox?

MInimalising a 2D platformer as "going from left to right" can be applied to any genre; Metroid is just exploring, Star Fox is just shooting and dodging, etc. There's nothing inherently inferior about sidescrollers, some of the best games ever made are sidescrollers.

Other Nintendo studios can make sidescrollers, but none can make them the way Retro does. Their approach with DKCR was unlike that of any other Nintendo platformer, with its elegantly orchestrated chaos and highly dynamic levels, it's a welcome dose of spice among the sugary sweetness of other Nintendo platformers.

And being rated E for everyone or not focussing on story aren't inherently negative traits either. If you want a new story-driven mature game for Wii U, there's still X and Bayonetta 2. (Plus Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4, Batman Arkham Origins)

It looks like a Wii game all around.

On a scale of how much I want to buy this game, I'd give it a 1.

1 out of 2?
