Forums - Gaming - 7th to 8th gen is the smallest jump in graphics I have seen. Yep I will be the bad guy and say it.

You're comparing tiny static screen captures from each generation.

You really want me to enlarge a ps1 game and show how terrible they truly look. Keeping them small are doing the other gens a favor

Soooo...wait, what?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It's economics 101, the law of diminishing returns.

How much more clutter can they add to an alleyway or a guy's backpack before you stop caring?

Cleary improvements in graphics yes. A generational leap like say FF7 to FF10 not really.

The small ps1 screens are hiding much more flaws than if they were enlarged.

Well, the graphics will get better over time. I mean compare Halo 3 and Halo 4, they were both in the same generation but dat graphical leap!

exactly.. We will see the same with next gen games too.

I'm already seeing a huge graphical difference from PS360 and PS4/X1 games and the gap is only going to get bigger. Geometry, lighting, textures, simulation and special effects like volumetric lighting, depth of field & motion-blur all make for far more beautiful games than even the best looking current gen games.

Anyway, it's best to play the games yourself to notice all the visual improvements that compressed videos & low-res screenshots don't convey very well. You should at least find native-resolution screenshots for your comparisons to show all the games at their best.

It will probably be even lower next generation as well. Technology was rapidly advancing before and it's not doing so much right now due to lack of significant breakthroughs. I expect better tech within the games themselves though like better AI, mechanics, gimmicks, fps, textures... etc etc

and animations. Good point

In motion the gap is even wider.
