Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: If devs are worried about used game sales, they should make better games.

Or maybe Nintendo games don't get traded in because they lack any third party games.

people i know who own Mario bros or Mario kart are families who only own 4 or 5 games all gen. Of course some hardcore players own and trade on Nintendo consoles but with the wii many casual families owned next to nothing and probably have no idea about trading in. My sister in law has a wii and 5 games. The same games she had 2 years ago. She doesn't play them anymore but has never traded in her life.

xbox gamers and ps gamers demographic are much more into trading for the next big blockbuster.

Nintendo it has nothing to do with quality. Its got to do with your recent demographic.

Yep, that's why their games take a long time to drop in price and why they seemingly don't have as big a problem with used games. The "casuals"

Or maybe, and I'm just guessing here, their games just have much more replayability thanks to their design and local multiplayer options (never stops being fun at family or friend gatherings) unlike many story-driven games that people don't really feel like playing through again once they've gone through the story so they trade them in for something else.

I think too many other developer tend to make more direct sequel, which improve on the original but are at the same time very similar game in term of basic design. So you end up with the original game becoming somewhat obsolete compared to the sequel.

While Nintendo are more likely to make a sequel which doesn’t just try to improve on the previous game but actually try differentiate it self from the previous title. So the original still has value compared to the sequel, as both games have their own identity. You see this a lot in Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker quite a lot different from each other.

Really. Whatever way you try to spin it, that marketshare is bigger than Sony's or Microsofts. So they are leading the market.

I don't care about the rest of your statement.

There is no spin.  Maybe you are blind-sighted.  Remember that Reggie's statement is meant to apply to 3rd parties concern over the "used games" market and how it affects their profitability.  If you are a 3rd party developer the market is divided in 2 whenever you decide to develop a game.  Nintendo or PS/Xbox.

I agree with Reggie though.  Used games are best controlled by providing great content and replayability.

The rest of my argument goes more to point out that when you have a lot of 3rd parties developing on your platform, there is a need to protect their interests.  MS has to please their developers and address their concern.  Nintendo did the same back when it had a large amount of 3rd parties developers.

It's a choice a lot of them make. A choice stemming from their desire to boot Nintendo out of the industry. They don't release their games on a Nintendo console so their target audience won't buy a Nintendo consoles. Then they use that to say; "We've decided not to release our game on Nintendo's home console because our target audience doesn't own a Nintendo console."

Or they just use the sales figures of cheap cash-ins/ports or lazy spinoffs as an excuse.

The 3rd parties divided the market. The 3rd parties are hurting themselves. Nintendo doesn't need 3rd parties, they never did. The GameCube and Wii are proof of that.

So you're saying it's the hardcore folks who present an unsustainable business environment for publishers?

NSMB and Wii Fit are the only Nintendo games right? Google it and found out how many a Xenoblade or Metroid Prime Trilogy costs today.

The balls on these dude...

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

EA makes bad games confirmed?!

Also, i approve of Nintendo's message, if only everyone agreed since this is true

That may be true.  Nintendo itself doesn't need them to stay afloat and profitable as a company.  But, we as nintendo gamers DO need 3rd parties.  We may love Nintendo games but we also wanto to play other types of games, and we are forced to buy a second console in order to do so.  After the Wii that became a common event.  But I'm still old-school and I prefer to own a single console.
