I think too many other developer tend to make more direct sequel, which improve on the original but are at the same time very similar game in term of basic design. So you end up with the original game becoming somewhat obsolete compared to the sequel.

While Nintendo are more likely to make a sequel which doesn’t just try to improve on the previous game but actually try differentiate it self from the previous title. So the original still has value compared to the sequel, as both games have their own identity. You see this a lot in Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker quite a lot different from each other.
