PlayStation 4 pre-orders have gone "through the roof" at Blockbuster, the company has revealed.

The retailer is reporting a "huge spike" in PS4 pre-orders following Sony's E3 press conference on Monday.

After announcing record-breaking Xbox One pre-orders last month, a Blockbuster spokesperson claims that the PS4 is now enjoying the same "incredibly positive reaction".

"We are absolutely thrilled with the amazing response to our pre-order service for both the PS4 and Xbox One," reads a Blockbuster statement.

"We're looking forward to seeing the brand new consoles in our stores along with the latest games to buy or rent.

"2013 has been a fantastic year for gaming at Blockbuster and its set to only get better following the announcements at E3."

Blockbuster also announced plans to offer the Xbox One Day One Edition, which includes the console, headsets, play and charge kits and a wireless controller.

The PlayStation 4 will launch this holiday season for $399 (£349) - $100 cheaper than the Xbox One in North America and £80 cheaper in the UK.

PS4 launch titles will include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Drive Club and Knack, while Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 were also confirmed for the console.
