What is "the next level"?

I'm thinking DK's Bananazooka Training.

Unlike Retro I don't have the ressources and the potential to decide of that. I'm not a game designer.

You can't talk about "the next level" and then get all sheepish when asked to describe what that "is", you big tease. You obviously have some sort of expectations?

I don't really have any expectations beyond something that looks new and innovative.

I saw what Retro did to the Metroid series. They reinvented it into something that was very bold at first but turned out very right.

I want the same kind of risk to be taken with the DK series.

I don't get it either. Apparently, some folks have drank the "lemon-flavored" 3D Kool-aid, and have deluded themselves into thinking a great 2D platformer is easy to make, mountains of shitty 2D platformers notwithstanding.

Also, Splosion Man is a better game than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Oh, I agree, it certainly isn't, but this game's been in production for, what, three years now? The original DKCR, which had to be built from the ground up, took less time in development than this game has so far. I was expecting something a bit larger in scope, so to speak.

I'm not so sure it's the same engine though: new machine, new engine makes sense to me. Especially since Retro has yet to reuse an engine for any of its games (even Prime 2 had an entirely new engine, if you'll recall).

Moreover, I have to wonder if they went straight into making this game. I can easily envision a scenario where they started working on another title(s), such as that rumored Sheik game, found it didn't work, and scrapped it. After all, that happens pretty often in gaming generally, and Nintendo particularly.

BRB, just checking what people thought of Donkey Konga and DK Jet Race / Barrel Blast.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

Because they didn't give DK big guns and shoot up zombie animales.

I'll take DKC over metroid any day.

Those games were not developped by Retro.

And I liked Donkey Konga so there you go!

In fairness, those are no more Donkey Kong games* than Mario sports/party/kart games are Mario games.*

*Mainline platformers. Or as mainline as the shitstorm that's DK64 can pretend to be. Can't believe Boutros, or anyone, likes that game. :-/

You and many other people didn't like it enough, damnit. Now they are stuck [choosing to make] DK platformers.

Maybe we could have a thing where they are inside clear plastic balls, collecting bananas on a tilting maze!

They could call it "DONKEYRINPA".
