Because the game looked the same from what we saw??

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Rare evolved the DKC series into Donkey Kong 64 on the N64. It was amazing.
Since then the Donkey Kong series hasn't gone to new scales and I've been waiting for so long to see what's next for DK. DKCR was great because it bringed a lot of nostalgia but I can't get excited for another one because ultimately DKCR didn't go in any new directions.
I think Retro has the ressources and the potential to bring DK to the next level but they won't, apparently.

What is remembered more fondly? DK64 or DKC? Sometimes, 3D is not better.
It may not have innovated, but it did everything it tried masterfully.

What is "the next level"?
I'm thinking DK's Bananazooka Training.

I agree that DKCR did everything it tried right but is a sequel which looks strongly similar really going to have the same impact? I think not.

Unlike Retro I don't have the ressources and the potential to decide of that. I'm not a game designer.

It's not that its necessarily lazy, but given the amount of build up and intrigue surrounding it after its absence essentially ruined Nintendo's E3 last year, I was hoping for something a bit more ambitious.

You can't talk about "the next level" and then get all sheepish when asked to describe what that "is", you big tease. You obviously have some sort of expectations?

I doubt this is Retro's only project. No way it takes 3 years to make a 2.5 D platformer using an existing engine. Methinks we'll see something else from Retro by the end of 2014.
I don't get it either. Apparently, some folks have drank the "lemon-flavored" 3D Kool-aid, and have deluded themselves into thinking a great 2D platformer is easy to make, mountains of shitty 2D platformers notwithstanding.
Also, Splosion Man is a better game than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
