Forums - Sony - Sony re third party: Build it and they will come

Lack of third party exclusives announced at Sony's conference isn't such a big deal. Why? Third party exclusive deals that truly matter are too expensive and MS isn't buying them either. (not putting down MS exclusives, they've come out surprisingly strong. And I was too a little disappointed in Sony's conference) If gamers will prefer (playing games on) a certain system, they will buy multi-platform games for that system. Gamers will decide in the end which console gets the best third party support.

MS is throwing a lot of money around, that is certainly visible. Sony doesn't have much money to throw. They can't out-money MS right now, they just can't. I don't believe PS4 will be sold at a loss either. MS is being a bully, but Sony will be that smart nerd who ends up with his girlfriend.

Sony did the most important thing. They built a great f***ing platform. The developers' praise tells you enough about which platform they will prefer working on. The consumers have spoken too (though not yet with their money). That will take care of the rest. And exclusives? Yes, there will always be great exclusives. Sony ain't gonna f*** that up. Just because MS is stepping up their game doesn't mean that Sony is falling behind.

PS: plus you know which console will have the best looking versions of third party titles, right? :) (excuse if this post ends up incorrectly parsed and without any paragraphs, I'm posting from mobile)

Crap, you guys ignored my topic like it has leprosy. :( Very Ben Hur of you guys. I've made like four threads since I joined, I know I'm not the brightest bulb around here, but please humor me. If you need a question, tell me what is your opinion of Sony's third party situation and how things will look in the future. If you think this thread is crap, please tell me so so I can learn better. Thanks. :)

Don't let lack of replies get you down. People are very focused on already popular topics and posters, especially now.

OT: I agree up to a point. New consoles need to hit a threshold of launch/launch window games to prove the worth of system. If that means money hatting first/second/third party devs to get the games out, then that's the way it has to be. Droughts in software early on can turn an amazing console into rubbish.

Look at the Vita, look at the WiiU. Slow starts like we are witnessing on these two platforms can permanently tarnish a system or make it very hard to recover, leaving room for other systems to room to grow where they otherwise wouldn't.

Time will tell whether either the PS4 or XONE have enough games with a wide enough reach to ensure devs want to spend time and money developing for those respective platforms. Seems like the XONE has a leg up purely in terms of numbers but the negatives of DRM and price point are putting a damper on that which might lower the threshold of needed games on the PS4.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

Sony is spending that money on more 1st party exclusives than M$. Sony will have 20 1st party exclusives 12 being new ip's in its first year vs. M$' 15 exclusives 8 being new ip's. M$ blew through most of their exclusives at just this year's e3 while sony still has so many more to come possibly at tgs, (Naughty Dog at VGA?) and next year's e3 :D

I'm pretty sure MS bought Titanfall.

But Sony will get plenty of third party exclusives in Japan since the Xbone is going to be deader than dead there, even more so than the 360. Probably not big ones, though.

Can Sony buy some Vita games? Cause there weren't any...

@Badgenome: True, PS4 will be an absolute monster for Japan centric titles. Zero competition. And I'll import them all! Mwahahahahahaha! (OK maybe not all, a few)

@NYCrysis: True. MS did put all eggs in this one basket. Can't say I blame them and was probably the right choice.

@dharh: thanks for the sentiment. I don't think either of the consoles will face a draught, both consoles seem to have full support of the major publishers, unlike that certain other console...

@BasilZero: Having stronger exclusives was important for the PS3 while it was looking very unattractive compared to 360 in it's first years. They won't be as important while it is looking like the more attractive console IMO.

They announced exclusive content for the PS4 for Watchdogs, Assassins Creed and Destiny. That's pretty good to me. And I agree that games look better on the PS4.

the only difference between sony's third party exclusives and ms's third party exclusives is sony was upfront and honest about calling them timed exclusives.

This. Why neglect a system in each event dammit! xD

They started by saying "let's talk about Vita" and I got all excited and then nothing came... Killzone and Tearaway are nice, but not quite "killer exclusives"

A GTA would be amazing, but even a better try at CoD or another AC game would be fantastic. I am still happy with my Vita, but at this rate I don't know how long that is going to last. Where was Type-0? Is it time to give up on that?
