Final Fantasy XV Is Not a PS4 Exclusive

Final Fantasy XV is coming to the PS4 and the Xbox One, Square Enix just announced.

"FFXV is being developed with a tool called Direct X 11," Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto said at today's Square Enix press conference.

"With this tool it's possible to port the title to various hardware," Hashimoto added. "Following yesterday's announcement [for PS4] we would like to announce that we are porting Final Fantasy XV to Xbox One as well."

According to Square Enix, the game is not scheduled for release during its current financial year, which ends on March 31, 2014.

Final Fantasy XV was originally announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII in 2006. The game was slated to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Over the years, Square Enix repeatedly asserted that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was a PlayStation exclusive (here, here, here, here, and um, here, among others).

In summer 2012, Kotaku first reported that Final Fantasy Versus XIII had been folded into the next numeric Final Fantasy title.

Final Fantasy 15 never had PS4 exclusivity...

After years and years of reassuring it was......this is a blow. Not quite the FF13 megaton stolen exclusive moment, but big nonetheless.

It never had it....another sad thread. Sony doesn't need to buy third partty exclusives like MS.

It was never, ever announced as a PS4 exclusive and we have a thread about XV being on Xbox One already.

Considering none of the previous Kingdom Hearts games were sold on any Xbox console it'll be really interesting to see how it sells on the XBone.

This is no surprise. Even though it was never official, we all anticipated it to go multi.

It'll sell better on PS4, anyway.

I kinda figured since FFXIII was announced for 360. At this point, I don't care. I just want to play this and KH3 ASAP. If more people get to experience the awesome that will hopefully be these two games, I'll suck up my fanboyism and be glad for others.
