I see why some people don't like it. But it will grow on you, PS+ is a great service

This doesnt really bother me that much since im already a PS+ subscriber since its so awsome but its a shame for those that only play online once in awhile. On the other hand you would have to pay to play online anyway on xbone so you're fucked either way

You just can't deny that this situation is just hilarious. The exact same people who were bashing Live for pawalled online are now up in arms defending the exact same policy on Sony's side. The colors shine so bright, it's amazing.

I find it strange that a subject that has spawned hundreds of threads is suddenly becoming a non issue on these forums for a large number of posters, the silence is deafening.  These are posters that posted walls of text about how much XBL was rip off, yet you're now lucky to get more than sentence of them saying "meh, but there's no DRM".

I called this when PSN + was first announced, it was obvious it was a ploy to start introducing Playstation fans to the concept of paying to play, it was just impossible for Sony to do it last gen (without them losing all credibility) after they made so much of a big thing about free online.  I agree with people that I'd rather pay a subscription service like this than lots more money up front for the console for a service I may or may not use.

It's really very simple.

You are comparing a strategy followed by Microsoft when Sony did not follow that strategy, to a strategy followed by Sony when Microsoft does follow that strategy.

Obviously it's going to be less of a turnoff if both companies are doing it.

At least we'll not have XBL bashing threads based purely on the pay model in future I guess.

It was expected and needed for Sony to remain competitive and earn money.

Brilliant move.

Firstly, it's a little bit concerning how happy you are about this.

Secondly, you are comparing a policy followed by Microsoft by which you got nothing but multiplayer gameplay for that subscription price, with its main competitor offering the same services for free, to a policy followed by Sony which just adds multiplayer to the existing PlayStation Plus, which is something Microsoft already does.

I still don't like it, but it's not as bad as Xbox Live Gold was until recently.

How would it be stripped down? Not a single game available on PS+ is a "stripped down version" and there is no reason to hint that Drive Club would be any different. In fact you'll need PS+ to take advantage of the multiplayer component any ways. Bad form my freind.

Not a single game on PS+ has been available on the original launch date of the game. They called the PS+ version of Drive Club "Plus Edition", so it has to be different. It's certainly not going to be an enhanced version.

Good thinking.

I didn't know what to think of it when it was announced. An important launch game and they immediately kill its sales by giving it away for free?

Yeah that must be it. The PS+ free version must be a stripped version with much less cars than the retail version.

After we've read years of threads like the one below, it's now ok to charge for online to Sony fans is it?

PS+ is a great service. Had it for over 2 years and I never play online multiplayer games

I think the same about other subscription services so I don't doubt it.  Perhaps people will now be more tolerant and understanding that paying for something is not a rip off or extortion if people see value in a product.

I'm telling you right now, the current PS Plus value proposition is amazing. I am a PS Plus member. But it's also a ruse. It was a ruse for this very moment. It was constructed to offer insane value for as many people as possible to jump on the train for this very moment, to mitigate the shitstorm when this bomb goes off. "Oh whatever, it kinda sucks, but I'm already paying for PS Plus because it's such great value". That was the plan. The value proposition will not stay as amazing as it is right now. You can bookmark this post, print it out, hold me responsible, whatever, 2 years from now, the value of PS Plus will be a far cry from what it is today. But I don't care, I knew exactly what I was getting into and come january my subscritpion will run out and I won't look back. I got my value out of this.

And yes, I am damn happy. I told this tale a year ago and I was told that I am crazy, Sony would never do this, oh no, Sony is a good guy. I am happy because now the hypocrisy, spinning, backpedalling will happen, and that's the best part of E3 for me.

Ssenkahdavic: Meh. Have 2 years of PSN+ right now. Im good.

artur-fernand: I already have Plus because of the free games, so no big deal for me.

Hawkeyejonjon: Was planning to keep my PS+ subscription anyways so i don't care

makingmusic476: /is PS+'d up for the next two years already

ChristianTheAtheist: I think it's a nice trade for a bunch of free games and goodies, no online passes, being able to play used games, and a low price tag.

Kantor: PS+ is a fantastic deal already, and I would get it whether or not it was required for multiplayer.

weaveworld: I don't mind though, paying for plus anyways for the content it gives.

Oh man this is tiring, it goes on and on, so

Stage one of Keikaku completed. On to the next step.
