Simple. Nintendo release their big titles (Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Zelda and Super Smash Bros.) + a possible price cut = Sales getting better.
Expensive consoles like Xbone and PS4 will get decent launches due to hardcore MS and Sony fans getting the console on day 1. Then, the sales will go down the same way PS3 and X360 did in their first years. The PS3 was selling near 50k/week and the X360 was selling near 75k/week at that time. Looking how the market is now in comparison with 2005-2006, I won't be too surprised to see Xbox one and PS4 selling in the 25k-50k/week range in their first year on the market.

Im not arguing against Nintendo dragging the Wii U out of the hole, because I genuinely think it will do well next Year with support and a price cut. What Im arguing against is the frankly ridiculous thought that the PS4 and Xbox One will be selling 25,000 units per week only a few months from launch.
The consumer is desperate for a new generation of hardware. These consoles will be supported, a lot, by 1st parties and 3rd parties. A console that costs $399 can still sell, as long as it has compelling content and the press is behind it. You need to remember why the PS3 sold like it did during the early years. It was because it was $600, far more expensive than the competition and had literally nothing good worth playing.
We know for a fact that the PS4 wont have this problem because its still relatively cheap and has support. The One Im not too sure on, because of the $499 price tag, despite good support.
The Wii U has been selling like it has, because software support for the machine has been non-existant from both Nintendo and 3rd parties. The PS4 and Xbox One wont have that problem.
