I guess the concern here is if Nintendo decides to expand into these genres, what would be left for third parties to bring to the table?

That's nothing to worry about. You just need to ask yourself this question: Right now when Nintendo doesn't make such games themselves, do third parties bring such games to the table?

you must have missed the NEWS from the other console fans. It is up to Nintendo to build up these audiences then 3rd parties will come just liek they do for platformers etc..

They are already expanding by creating a new building at Kyoto (source in Spanish). However I believe that we will see the denefits of it only at the middle of the next generation.

The Wii sold the way it did mainly because of the controller, not so much the games. Nintendo's first-party games are always some of the best selling of their respective generation. That didn't save the GC or N64.

So you're asserting that it's the Wiimote that caused Mario Kart Wii to sell over 30 million (six times more than the Gamecube game), New Super Mario Bros Wii to sell 27 million, Wii Fit and Wii Fit+ to each separately sell over 20 million, etc.?

No, I'm saying the controller caused far more Wii hardware units to be sold than its predeccesors. The software sales increases were due primarily to a much larger install base and a lot of bundling.

Will the (hopefully large) influx of indie developers working on Wii U projects make up for the seemingly barren 3rd party support?

Bah!

I think Nintendo's E3 direct showed just how dire the third party situation is for them on the Wii U. They definitely need a) more studios or b) more second party partnerships.

Yes.

-One to focus on Western games mostly FPS and/or wRPGs.
-Another one along with Monolith to focus on jRPGs.

I feel like Xenoblade Chronicles may be to Nintendo what FF is to Sony, if they market "X" aggressively enough.

Bah!

probably

maybe all of the options in the OP
