sony confirmed they wont.

If you are talking about the patent... Can you link the source?
If you are talking about the DRM in general; Sony said "up to the publisher" which is basicaly a way to say "It will happen but it is not our fault"

but those publishers arent sony. your thread tittle says sony

Yah because the patent I'm talking about (as an exemple of why Sony is no different than any other companies out there) is Sony's patent.

To be honest mate your arguing for no reason. You're just reacting to the internet. All the internet does is complain about one thing or another.

And neither Sony or Microsoft should be branded as evil. Come on man, don't turn yourself into a console loyalist who just defends one console as well. That makes you no better than the people accusing microsoft.

At the end of the day we just need to wait until both MS and Sony clear up this mess. And until then we as consumers need to show both companies that gamers like ourselves will not accept the used game blocking/always online from either company. Sure it might not affect you, doesn't affect me either. But it's still an anti consumer policy and it should be got rid of from both consoles.

The twitter campaign by GAF was a good way to air these complaints from gamers. And a lot of gaming journalists and key industry people have picked up on the view of the general public. The fact is that DRM should not be on consoles. So rather than arguing about which is the better console and how Sony could do the same thing, lets try and make a difference so neither console has it, because in the end that will benefit gamers most.

You are right; this is a reaction to the internet; won't deny it. At the same time; it was really annoying in the past few weeks to have all Sony loyalist ruining a lot of good thread because of their "reactions". That's why I want to know what they are thinking of this? (And you response is very good by the way; better than those just coming in and saying unintelligent comments or attacking me for my OP).

Call me pessimistic but I do not believe we can avoid that... The DRM I mean.
And honestly; having to connect once per 24 hours is really nothing compared to actual DRM in place for digital or even Steam like distributions; I do not see this as a big deal.

Also; having Microsoft (or Sony) + the publisher/developer to receive some money out of a used game sale is way better than having GameStop ridiculously making money out of nothing :)

Thanks haha. It's annoying when people take sides with anything.

I agree with you, it is inevitable that DRM of some form will probably come to next gen. And if that's successful then i don't see any reason why PS5 and Next Xbox won't just implement an even stricter form of DRM. Connecting 24 hours isn't a big deal. But what worries me is the emphasis on even single player games using the cloud (a server) all the time. Obviously not all info has been revealed so i can't really say much on this topic only that if single player games did require an always online connection then it'd be really really dissapointing. Much worse than steam which has an offline mode at least.

I do agree that publishers need to increase their income somehow. But a forced and controlled used game market/tax isn;t the right way. I've heard the argument against gamestop before and to be honest i fail to see what the problem is. All they're doing is what any other business does. Buy a product and sell it on at a profit. I'm not sure if you're from the UK or not but we have a store chain here called CEX, they buy used cameras and electornics and sell them on for a profit. It's how a business works. So there is nothing wrong with the way gamestop operates. I agree it takes money away from the publishers but gamestop are running a perfectly legitimate business buying and selling used goods. A publisher has the option to do the same by opening their own trade in system or whatever. So the gamestop taking money from nothing argument is flawed as well here.

While I don't know what Sony has planned in regards to used games; they already debunked the theory that this patent was being used for the PS4. It has nothing to do with the device at all.

Really?  I missed that.  Do you have a link?  Thanks.

You quoted right before i editted

I know that you're hoping and praying to the lord that Sony does everything MS is doing. The mods will get me if i say why like last time so i will keep closed lip on it

We had threads made here about this stuff. So you should already know

Dude... Why would I want Sony to do everything Microsoft is doing? I seriously do not follow you here.
I'm interrested in Sony's console; so I could not care much what they are doing with it.

Mm

I assume that you're an MS guy and that you are pretty much shaking an angry fist at Sony fans. You pretty much admitted it in your OP.

You're hoping that Sony does all that MS is doing because you want them to suffer aswell

Its waaaaaaaaay too obvious

Edit: @Mods im just saying so relax

Eh, i think not,

The difference is that since the hoopla on MS started, Sony has specifically come out and stated officially that they are not requiring any form of internet connection and that in itself removes the entire DRM argument.

Sony has explicitly stated that used game DRM will be left up to publishers. They've repeated this a few times already.

And I guarantee publishers are going to jump on it. This is Sony's way of deflecting blame. Well.. that's what it looks like so far. We'll have to see how publishers react once both consoles are released.

This.

Also, people seem to not mentiont he fact that Sony has DRM on the games they publish. They don't support used games at all.

You know, if Sony comes up with some DRM Bullshit, it doesn't make Microsoft look beeter in any way. It just makes Sony look worse. Sim City on PC has even worse DRM than Xbox One. But still, that doesn't make the Xbox One better. Just because there is something that is just as bad or worse doesn't mean it's ok all of a sudden.

No matter who does it, it sucks big time. And I don't care who started it. So you know what? Cheers to Nintendo until sony denies or confirms anything. No crappy DRM bullshit on Wii U. Still no Xbox One for me.

Well said.

I don't understand this brand loyalty people have to companies that screw them over.

Microsoft and Sony should be begging us for our hard earned money, not have people defending them through some sense of loyalty to a brand.

OFFICIAL WORD FROM MS. CLEARS UP STUFF (probably already posted)

With our modern architecture, Xbox One games will load more quickly, will be always accessible from the cloud, and there is no physical limit to the size or scope of the content provided.

Here are our platform policies and capabilities for game licensing – all of which will be made available when Xbox One launches later this year:

•Buy the way you want—disc or digital—on the same day: You’ll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.

•Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games.

•Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.

•Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

•Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

•Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.

As we move into this new generation of games and entertainment, from time to time, Microsoft may change its policies, terms, products and services to reflect modifications and improvements to our services, feedback from customers and our business partners or changes in our business priorities and business models or for other reasons. We may also cease to offer certain services or products for similar reasons.

In the months ahead, we will continue to listen to your feedback as we meet with our partners in the ecosystem to bring additional detail about our policies.

We are excited about this new generation of games and entertainment and look forward to sharing more news with our fans.

OFFICIAL WORD FROM MS^

I remember those patents too. That only means Sony was contemplating something like that years ago. But they have stated they wouldn't do it, so they won't. It would be stupid to lose that extra bit of edge over Microsoft.
