Forums - Sony - Sony could possibly stop you from playing used games

You can't on the Xbox One at all. The DRM is console wide, for every game, as of right now. But they are currently exploring for a solution. 3 monthes from now it may change

What are you talking about? Loaning games or something? I never said anything about that. I am talking about going somewhere and buying/selling used games. The DRM for that appear to be exactly the same on both consoles: up to the publisher. If John Q publisher wants you to be able to resell your used games free of interference from them, you can do so on either console. If John Q Publisher wants to stop you from doing it, or get a cut, he can do that on either console. That is what I am saying.

If I have a friend good enough that I would lend a game to him, I'll just add him to my 10 person family list so he can play the game without me needing to loan him anything. Assuming that is possible. We still don't know everything we need to know about DRM on either console.

The difference is that since the hoopla on MS started, Sony has specifically come out and stated officially that they are not requiring any form of internet connection and that in itself removes the entire DRM argument.

Sony has explicitly stated that used game DRM will be left up to publishers. They've repeated this a few times already.

And I guarantee publishers are going to jump on it. This is Sony's way of deflecting blame. Well.. that's what it looks like so far. We'll have to see how publishers react once both consoles are released.

I've said this several times. Publishers can use DRM for PS360 games right now if they wish. But this sort of thing is not so good to introduce into games late in the generation.

If Sony makes this patented offline DRM system available to publishers, for a fee, then I would count that as tantamount to what MS are doing.

sites already report that patent doesnt pertain to the ps4. Also, sony confirmed used games and no internet requirement

No one knows all the details. Lets just wait for E3. I think Sony will do the exact same thing, If not the game developers will show more love to MS.

funny thread. Just wait for E3 already, it is almost there.

Yah, E3 will certainly give us a lot of answers :) At the same time, in the past few weeks, we got a lot of threads going on about the evilness of Microsoft and the "passion" of Sony :) This is what I do not understand hehe

There is to be no answers at E3

sll answers are already out, at E3 Microsoft will just project xboxone as a standard console by showing games only

No they just dodged the question better. I think many of you on this site will have a big surprize. Just what I think, I could be wrong.

At least you hope they will, otherwise MS is on the back foot well and truly.

They could but would they after all the backlash. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't changed their mind on this

I think the vague responses and "answering without really answering" tactics we have seen by Sony would suggest that yes, what you see in terms of used games DRM on Xbone, you'll see on PS4 as well.

The only difference would be Gamestop might not have to jack into Sony servers just to buy a game off a customer like they would on Xbone. But publishers can take care of that easily enough with a serial number included in every game. Or, the disc based solution from this thread, which doesn't even require Internet.

The vague responses of flat out denying internet requirement and Ps4 being able to play used games (Also confirmed by gamestop).... okay, you just put your head in the sand some more buddy

You don't need an Internet connection... unless a 3rd party company requires it.
You can sell/buy/play used games... if a 3rd party company allows it.

When Sony actually comes out like MS did and gives some actual concrete stuff on how this works, something deeper than "well hey its up to 3rd parties" then you can talk about head in the sand little buddy.

Hey unless I am dated on some of this. In which case by all means, enlighten.
