Forums - Sony - Sony could possibly stop you from playing used games

This patent basically mean : no more used game.
I fail to see why it is less harsh than having to check every 24 hours but still being able to sell used games.

You know, if Sony comes up with some DRM Bullshit, it doesn't make Microsoft look beeter in any way. It just makes Sony look worse. Sim City on PC has even worse DRM than Xbox One. But still, that doesn't make the Xbox One better. Just because there is something that is just as bad or worse doesn't mean it's ok all of a sudden.

No matter who does it, it sucks big time. And I don't care who started it. So you know what? Cheers to Nintendo until sony denies or confirms anything. No crappy DRM bullshit on Wii U. Still no Xbox One for me.

Exactly!  If Sony does implement the same nonsense as Microsoft, it is a victory for no one and a loss for gamers and the industry.  I have never been less enthusiastic and more concerned by an upcoming generation.

^This, I fail to see why we are so concerned in proving that the other company will have DRM too. When we should be concerned that they are putting this kind of restrictions in the first place.

Sony has no DRM on the PS4, Period which Yoshida has already said but that answer is not good enough for you guys. If the DRM is implemented it will be initiated by third parties. As I said third parties have been prepping for this via online clients when you load your games into your Xbox, Wii U, PS3 or PC.

What Sony needs to do is point out exactly how third party DRM will work on their console which is obvious by now that it would be an online client because if Sony doesnt lockdown the console they must do it themselves. Some people just want Sony to be as bad as MS no matter what they say.

Oh come on....

Stop saying Sony does not have any DRM. They said "it is up to the publisher"; and guess what, they are a publisher... :)

The only thing they said is that they are not offering a framework to the game publishers.
They never said they do not intend to use one for their own games. So far everything is just assumption and wishes.

There's a big difference between having a publisher stop you from playing used games and having a console maker have everyone stop you from playing used games. In theory, if Sony does it only as a publisher, it's not different from, say, EA or Activision, doing it. In practice I suspect others might find it easier to follow, though, if the console maker led the way.

Really depends on your point of view. If we limit this examination to used games only, you are right: Sony's patent is much stricter. That said, I'd say another big factor in why people complain about MS's DRM is because you don't really own the game if you have to connect every day for the game to work. Sony's system doesn't do that: The game works whether you have an internet connection or not. In a way, I'd feel a lot more like I actually owned a game if it used Sony's system instead of MS's system. Not that I'd want either system though, they're both pretty bad.

PS4 can be fully enjoyed with no internet connection at all. The have no system-wide DRM. That's all that matters. If publishers want to limit used games on the console, that is a decision all their own. Since Microsoft is already going through with it, Sony will probably have to let publishers do it on their console too.

So yeah, Microsoft is evil. Sony isn't as far as we know.

And that's exactly the point I made when I first quoted you. If all 3rd parties do it, that means all games (minus 1st parties) will have DRM. We are all clear that Sony won't use DRM themselves, but 3rd parties won't think the same way.

The other point is that Sony isn't doing anything to stop 3rd party publishers (for now at least). Sure MS is worst, but Sony isn't the white knight of gaming either.

is all right there

if the console does not need an internet connection u can bypass all the drm bs simply by not going online. This is a knight in shining armor compared to what MS is doing...

PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all.

Confirmed PS4 Truthfacts:

-No Internet Connection Required.
-Ability to play used games

Okay, so what do we listen to? Do we listen to everything or do we ignore everything? you cant have both. You are picking and choosing to fit your agenda

I thought we were all clear on that. We all know there's no DRM, but that won't stop 3rd parties for doing it.

A "white knight" would be the one that stops 3rd parties from doing DRM. Simple put, if you want your game on our console, don't put DRM. That would be a white knight, Sony isn't.
