Unless you're a Nintendo gamer the answer is 3d party obviously.

That's why I combined all three of the platforms together.
But it still seems like Nintendo's 1st party is winning the pools lol.

Ahh... I misunderstood. Well done then, because that would make the choice much more difficult for many people.
For me it's still 3d party thanks to Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls alone, but Nintendo games + the best from Sony and MS is undoubtedly a strong combo.
Oh man, that is a hard question. I think I'd go with 3rd party, because I can't give up Sonic and because there just aren't enough 1st party games from Sony or Nintendo to help make up for the wide variety I would get from 3rd parties. It would hurt like heck to lose Halo and Fable, though...this would be a nightmare for me, really.

We all know you'll go where EA goes.

I'll slightly change the topic to fit my answer ;-P
In the PS2 era I would choose 3rd parties over Sony 1st party games
In the PS3 era I would choose Sony's 1st party offerings over 3rd party games, since they account for half of my library (over half if you count exclusives from Sony owned IPs) and the games that I plan on buying for the PS3 before I move to the PS4 are also about half from 1st parties.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!

As far as I now Monolith is a 1st party studio. I guess you could count Retro as 1st party since they are pretty much always making Nintendo games and are like a 1st party studio since they don't make games for any other platform. But yeah, any game made by a studio not owned by Nintendo/Sony/MS falls under the 3rd party category, even if the game is a 3rd party exclusive to the platform. This question is more about just the divide between 1st and 3rd party, not about specific platforms. |
What about games that Nintendo is financing? The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2...first party or third? I mean, Nintendo pays for development and publishing.
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

1st party since all 3 of my PS and Nintendo consoles have been dominated by their first party lineup (PS1-3, Wii, N64, GBA). I've always had as much as I can handle from those awesome studios. The only boxed 3rd party games I have for PS3 right now are the Batmans, Skyrim, and Tomb Raider. I'm debating whether or not to even keep Tomb Raider once I'm finished with it. The boxed ones from Sony are Ratchet HD trilogy, Ratchet ToD, ACiT, Jak HD trilogy, Resistance 3, Uncharted 1-3, Infamous 1-2, GT5 (for my dad I never play it), Sly HD, Sly Thieves in Time, God of War Saga, God of War Ascension, Killzone Trilogy, Heavy Rain, and MGS4. Wii I don't have any 3rd party. It's Smash, Mario Kart, Skyward Sword, and Galaxy 1-2.

I am pretty sure that I've kept details of my private life to a minimum here on VGC. Regardless, you are right that I will be going to hell. |
This confirms you are a big fan of Dante's Inferno, and your love for EA games.

Nintendo - 1st party without a doubt
M$ - Really tough one but 3rd party edge it out
$ony - Easily 3rd party
Combined - 3rd party for sure
