The difference is, you will need the set top box as well as the Xbox One. The XBox One doesn't do away with the set top box, all it does is give you a window into using that other device through a MS environment. |
in th opening post"Sources familiar with the situation tell us that Microsoft is in talks with the broadcaster to sell Xbox One with Sky subscriptions. The device could work as a set-top-box or companion device - but most importantly the console could be sold at a hugely reduced cost."
Currently with verizon fios in the United States and the xbox 360 you can use it as a set top box for a good number of live tv chanels, with the verizon fios tv guide. its an app built for the 360, no need for a set top box. They can do the same for the xbox one. Yes it does work in additon to cable boxes as has been anounced, but it may also replace a set box for companies that MS has partnered with. we will have to wait until they give further details. but considering it cerrently possible on the 360 I dont see why the xbox one can't do it too.
