This could be good news for MS if they can manage that...but, remember, SKY is a very expensive service and they have been losing ground to BT Vision etc. The basic SKY package is £21.50 per month based on a 12 month deal and you don't get much for that....no sports, no movies etc, so to make the difference by using Xbox One, you would probably need a much fuller package...and it's not cheap. It would set you back £40-£50 per month. Overall, I just don't see it working for Microsoft. I'm surprised that they didn't invest in their own broadcasting online service like Netflix, Lovefilm, HBOGo & BBC iPlayer all rolled into one package. That's what I though Sony would do, but it's not going to happen is it.

if your already required to have set top box, and the xbox one can replace it it comes down more to the cost difference between a set top box and the xbox one.  Also if they can do it with Sky, they can make deals with others too.

The difference is, you will need the set top box as well as the Xbox One.  The XBox One doesn't do away with the set top box, all it does is give you a window into using that other device through a MS environment.

in th opening post"Sources familiar with the situation tell us that Microsoft is in talks with the broadcaster to sell Xbox One with Sky subscriptions. The device could work as a set-top-box or companion device - but most importantly the console could be sold at a hugely reduced cost."

Currently with verizon fios in the United States and the xbox 360 you can use it as a set top box for a good number of live tv chanels, with the verizon fios tv guide. its an app built for the 360, no need for a set top box. They can do the same for the xbox one. Yes it does work in additon to cable boxes as has been anounced, but it may also replace a set box for companies that MS has partnered with. we will have to wait until they give further details. but considering it cerrently possible on the 360 I dont see why the xbox one can't do it too.
