Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Basic Being Recalled! Confirmed by GameStop - [ UPDATED ]

"Reblancing the stock," eh?

I can see a disproportionate number of Deluxe SKUs selling at Gamestop, while more Basic SKUs sell through at Wal-Mart.

put the 32 gig at 299 and 64 gig at 350?

I'd hope they'd be smart enough to actually offer a large HDD. This 32GB -> 64 GB upgrade is laughable for a console.

i dont know.... external hdd works with a lot of people...

some people think a first party expansion with their not so awesome price is laughable....

This isn't really a bad thing. This could mean a new model may be announced at their ND or they may change the storage in them and resell them as 32 or 64 gig models.

I do think that they're going to replace the 8 Gigs with the 32, resell them as deluxe (in black or white) and do a price cut for the deluxe model at E3.

I don't see how. 32GB as the largest HDD offering in 2013 seems so crazy to me. I thought 20 and 60GB  were small in 2006....

What Nintendo needs is to release a new awesome peripheral (like the Wii Fit board was) , pronto.

That ship has sailed. What they need to focus on first is the core. It's become pretty obvious that this console won't have mass market appeal like the Wii did.

This is what people were joking about with the Wii, negative sales...

On a more serious note; this was bound to happen, I've been saying for months that the Basic set is bullshit and needs to go/be replaced, Nintendo, by way of having their hand forced by retailers who fail to move the Basic set, are finally seeing this as well. Releasing the Basic set was a massive mistake to begin with.

I thought this will happened, but I thought they would've done this a month ago...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Look, seriously, they'd give the things away before they put money into ripping them open and changing the memory. It would be cheaper and tie up a lot less resources.

Says who? they can still gather the mass appeal if they have a catchy peripheral + software. I will concede that the Wii U gamepad will NEVER have that appeal BY ITSELF (now matter how good software is developed for it). But if they can create a NEW thing like the balance board it will be 10 times cheaper than scratching Wii U and making a whole new console. And I'm sorry to tell you but the "core" of Nintendo fans is not large enough (as Wii U sales have shown) and expecting that small audience to carry the Wii U on its back and expand the installed-base to a *competitive position* is folly.
