well, none of the exclusive M$ paid for XB360 interested me before, probably same case will happen for XBONE again...

Well...they did have the majority of japanese rpgs with the 360 for a little while. Then titles started flying right and left and people wonder why japanese gamers turned their backs on the xbox.
@OP: They'll surely do it, and publishers will decide game by game whether accepting or not, depending on the profit they expect from competing platforms.

I think if it turns out MS are the only ones doing this DRM (which is heaven for the likes of EA) then I can see this 'precedented partnership' being MS able to buy a ton of EA exclusives. Respawns title, something from Insomniac has been rumoured and Mirrors Edge 2. Stuff like that.
I think though the amount of first parties they've created over the last couple of years show they're serious about first party.
I also saw a quote the other day stating they no longer their games going to PC/other consoles but rather permanantly exclusive to X1.
you are forgetting advertisement costs & the fact that they said 15 first party exclusives

Let PC have them. So long as PS4 doesn't get it its a X1 win, exclusive or not.

I recall MS saying that they are spending a billion dollars in games and they have 15 exclusives coming out in the first year. The average AAA game costs 60 million so five of those cost well around 300 million which is around what MS paid for Rare. This leaves money to spend on two to three exclusives or timed exclusives and plenty left to spare on Kinect and XBLA titles which are dirt cheap compared and highly profitable to bank on. Halo 4's budget was over 100 million so my average could be wrong for the Black Tusk game. I am sure the third party + timed exclusive content for EA Sports MS is paying EA for could amount somewhere around 200-300 million all together.
Nothing is clear on this, this is just a feeling. What do you guys think? |
I think I feel the same way as well (Just with games in general, not just EA). As a JRPG fan and speaking from the JRPG players perspective, I can look back and see Xbox 360 released about 6 games that I never had a chance to play since I was only on PS3.
I believe Microsoft will repeat history by making deals with developers in all the major regions to create variety. I mean with thier first party line-up lets be honest, Its not that diverse. But Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant, and Magna Carta 2 were all games that made me think, "Dang...maybe I should buy and Xbox." (And this is coming from a Sony fanboy)

Obviously they won't port their games to competing consoles, but I'm not sure MS will change its strategy of seeking synergies between XBox and Windows. Although most probably XBOne will have at least timed exclusives before Windows versions are released. It could depend also on genre and single games too, those that are known to sell well enough on PC, or even better than on consoles, could receive simultaneous release, the others a delayed one, if any, to gather some more money from PC version sales when sales momentum on XB has declined. Just my opinion, I could be clamorously wrong.
PS: Welcome back!

Gears of War was a new IP...one of those games could be a new IP from a third party. |
Dragon Age 3 will not be exclusive to xbox or have exclusive dlc, mirrors edge 2 maybe because microsoft would take high interest in that game to use kinect as a big part of the controls.

How many first parties games have they created in the last couple of years? (This is a genuine question) All I seem to remember is kinect stuff and Sequal to Halo / Fable / Forza, were they not making those game since the start of the 360's lifecycle?
The 360 had a much more memorable exclusive lineup in the first half of the 360's life cycle imo. I really loved Lost Odyssey, and they also had Tale of Vesperia, Magna Carta 2, Halo Wars, Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden II amongst others; there was something there for everyone...
While I don't regret the purchase, (Lost Odyssey alone was worth it) I am slightly sadden each time I look back at my game collection and see that the last game I purchase for the 360 was Deathsmile back in 2011.
