Forums - Gaming - Something tells me MS is going to buy up key third party titles exclusivity for next gen

well, "exclusives" tend to only last a year when they are third party..

This.

Especially after playing Alan Wake on the PC I lost all trust in MS's ability to grasp the meaning of the term exclusive.

True...the Alan Wake franchise is four dollars on Steam for the weekend. The whole damn franchise...what a freaking steal!

Only RPGs matter, specifically JRPGs. If the XONE doesn't have the majority of RPGs this gen then I can't and won't care about it.

The truth.

Key EA games:
-All EA Sports titles
-Battlefield
-Mass Effect

I think that's about it. Those are the big AAA titles and those are all coming to Playstation as well. I think Microsoft might buy up some of the niche games such as Mirrors Edge 2 though.

Even if they do, so what?

They did this last gen aswell and you know what happened? Most of these exclusives got better versions on the PS3.

If the userbase isnt there, the games will be ported unless microsoft has a hand on the development. Given that its likely that the Ps4 will outsell the Xbox one, it think its safe to assume the best microsoft can do is timed exclusives.

I think theres no chance:

How does that stop MS from throwing a lot of money at one of those devs for a key exclusive or two?

While I think EA and Activision would support MS if Xbox One has measures against used games and the PS4 doesn't, I still think it's in both company's interests to have two consoles competing against each other, rather than a monopoly emerging.

So even if MS pays butt loads of money, EA and Activision won't do anything to absolutely cripple the PS4 IMO.

I was thinking that myself. If you look at the OP though it infers that Microsoft will buy out studios.

In terms of your point, the Japanese publishers, the big ones like Square Enix, Capcom, Konami and Namco Bandai will not develop games exclusively for Microsoft because their userbase is too weak in Japan.

I'm not sure what their options are for other developers. But I think a lot of those developers have partnership agreements with certain publishers or certain publishers own certain studios.  So they won't go exclusive for publishing reasons.

Personally I don't see any studio siding with either PS4 or Xbox, its not in their best interests.

However I know a lot of people see concerned at how Microsoft managed to secure 15 exclusive games.

I don't think EA or Activision will be happy about DRM on Xbox One.

The reason is because Microsoft is charging for second hand games, right okay. So where does the money go?

At first I actually thought DRM would be good for the industry, because it gives money back to the developer and the publisher who get nothing from second hand game sales. Somewhere like Gamestop will charge you $40 for a used game and keep all the profit, the developer who made that game gets nothing from that sale.

The problem is if MIcrosoft is implementing DRM; but where is money from that second hand sale going? From what I've heard Micosoft will be keeping all the money from that transaction. I doubt publishers like EA or Activision are happy about that.

Maybe. I'll wait until E3 though since it seems like MS is just absolutely everywhere with their PR.

Edit: Actually, it's still good. It's not like the devs got money from second hand sales anyway. If the DRM increases first hand sales then that'll increase sales for the devs/pubs.

A system with a huge design flaw sold just aswell as the PS3...

Remember PS3 closed the gap it has yet to establish a gap of it's own...And don't bring up luanch alingments...
