Hmm u have a valid point, coz after the whole DRM story broke out, my brother who is a lawyer and is in no way into gaming or computers, told me that Since the Days of PS3, Sony might have an exclusive right for running games off BR, and MS is just using BR as a software delivery medium for games therefore installation, along with playback rights.

Correct me if i m wrong are there any PC games on BR

Now his stupid statements makes sense.. So it seems Sony forced MS to have DRM. I mean sure Sony even their games will install, but i assume PS4 will require disk to be in the system to authentic unlike X1

That's almost certainly a load of nonsense. It's just a data disk.

The reason why pc games aren't on blu ray is much more simple than that.

these are just theories not facts and to support the theory further there are various BR royalty program http://www.one-blue.com/royalty-rates/ and sony being one of the founders of BR, it wouldnt be surprising if they got some kind of BR exclusivity for their console, as PS3 was one to the reason Sony wanted to develop BR, and it was because of PS3 that BR won the war against HD DVD.

*again these are just mere speculation! and to me this seem to be the most logical theory behind MS DRM

sony uses Windows on their computer line so there are coporate exchanges beteween sony and MS

I think all this multitasking is more of a consequence rather than the cause.    I really dont think of anybody playing a movie, watch nfl, and play a game at the same time.   Skype and playing sure, it is kind of beneficial.      Also, if multitasking is so important, then why not copy the movie to the HDD too? It would make the experience smother.

Actually, substitute a call from work for the NFL and I do just that.  I'll be playing a game, get a work call that I have to take - might even be a skype call now that the New Kinect 2.0 is better that my other Skype cameras.   Then come back to my game.

Or play a game, and a friend calls to check out some crazy funny drama on TV.  Pause game, go see drama, make a funny comment, we have a good laugh, chat for a bit, then back to game, movie or whatever.

Having an easy and fast way to switch between all that will be very convenient and a good plus for my lifestyle.  If I can say "Xbox, Pause" in all games it will be great.  (As with some games, the guide button still leaves the background music on.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I find windows analogy ridiculous, Windows is MS the main revenue source its a product made to be licensed with PC maker not to be choosey whom to license, although they are being choosey with Windows Phones, and its the same reason why Sony produced movies cannot be on a single given platform for revenue.

Give em a break Kowen! It's just a theory!!
Not the worst we've seen either, the Xbox ONE is behind development because "Sony is blocking them" is a stupid theory and the site seems to be calming down again, apart from a few members.

MS wouldn't care full stop. The royalties they pay would be pocket-change and that's being generous. MS make more money from each android phone they sell and more. Not to mention, I doubt the "walk around" technique would work at all, data still comes from the disk, hell, it is a blu-ray! It's been paid for already!! Also, this takes away the, "but the ps3/4 has blu-ray" argument/buying option.

No... it isnt.  It is 2nd in both revenue and more importantly profits and will soon be 3rd.

Lets be honest here... this theory of yours is a load of nonsense, not even sure such a restriction would be legal and I am sure the dozen or more other licensing partners would have said no to such a suggestion.

If this was a fact, we would all know about it as it would be public domain.

So what's ur sensible theory on MS enforcing such DRM of installing a 20gb game on ur 500gb non replacable Xbone HDD.. with activation through online, instead of using the disk for activation..  Just want to screw over xbox gamer, or earn a bit more money.

LOL OP, crazy reason.

On a side note,

game cartridges don't look like a crazy idea now. No need for huge hdds then, no load times, game saved to the cart.

I hope one day flash carts become cheap enough and take over optical drives.

Xbox One a simple no no for me!

Convenience.

There, that wasn't hard.

You need to come at this from the 360 experience angle and not the ps3 angle.  Installing and updating on the 360 is a rapid breeze compared to the PS3 (everyone with experience of both know this is a fact) and I have no doubt the One will be the same.

So I install a game, hell, I install 10 games... I play them and eventually I will delete them... whats the problem?  How many full retail games are you playing at once? I have Installed games and uninstalled them and installed them again in the past.  Not very often... but I have.  On the 360 the game install and the game saves are seperate, they will be here too.    I havent had a game disk spinning in my 360 for a very long time, I ALWAYS install.

What was it we used to say...? "swapping disks is SO last gen"

Now we dont... funny that.

Convenience.

Convenience to whom exactly?! Gamers? coz sure as hell, I dont see any gamer worth his salt embaracing or appreciating MS move on this DRM and online stuff. If its convience than why not leave the disc inside the system just for activation rather than connect online to play, still the game will be installed on HDD and will run as fast as it was intended. If MS was really wanted to eliminate the hassel of getting up from ur couch and removing the disc then they sure shouldnt have forced Kinect on to us.

If i wanted that kind of Convenience with DRM, I would go with Steam on my PC

and No! swapping DIscs is not "SO last gen" its ancient from PS2 era. and playing games on console without the disc is an excuse for forcing DRM and always online.

U know what funny thing is, when it comes to gaming, consoles has always been a "convinent" option over PC's DRM, thats why people choose consoles over PC.

I posit that within the lifetime of the xbox one, downloading full titles will become the norm and disc media will become quaint. So dIsc media is just being used as a distribution media for download titles.
