At this point, I don't see PS3 losing the lead. We've got TLoU, GTAV and GT6 on the way and they should keep it going strong until the PS4 arrives.

I'm not sure what the 360 has in store this year to be honest, haven't heard of much exclusives come out from them.

PS3 hasn't seen a system seller exclusive since Uncharted 3.....just sayin.

Its all about "getting what my firends have" at this point and which one is the cheapest for working class families.

That doesn't help your case at all. The PS3 was able to catch up to the 360 AND pass with no system sellers since 2011 with your logic. Now what does that tell you about the 360 with very little exclusives/big titles coming out for it? The only two things I can think of is GTAV and CoD Ghost. Both of those sell more on the 360 no doubt, but they sell very close in the PS3.

Also, TLoU has a nice amount of hype behind, Beyond not so much and GT6 will probably sell the most out of the three. The 360 may be able to reclaim 2nd but I don't see how.

Now were talking semantics....basically Europe and Japan working for PS3 and 360 not dropping prices since fall 2008. Not for this thread. All I know is that if Halo 4 outsold all PS3 exclusives in 2012 all by itself....your viewpoint can't be right either. But again, not for this thread.

What does that have to do with anything? Literally, what does that bolded statement bring into this conversation. If there was a new halo game this year, lets call it Halo 5, then that would make it more likely that the 360 would retake 2nd place since Halo 5 would easily sell more than the 3 exclusives coming for the PS. All I'm saying is the 360 has a rough road to reclaim 2nd place due to the lack of software in comparison to its direct rival, the PS3. It is possible a $50 price cut could get it back in 2nd place, but I feel it is highly unlike because of the previously stated reason.

Point being it has little to do with software at all now. Its about geographical sales trends, price points, and marketing to keep it in the public eye.

99$ seems ridiculous considering MS is a business and very low profit margin with 99$. Comparing that with 199$ and 249$ with kinect. They probably make 100$+ on each. With 99$ it would be impossible to make 100$+.

??? So what? $ony sold the ps2 also for $99, they also didn't make $100 with each sold console. It is about selling the brand especially.

Sony probably made more off a 99$ PS2 then MS would with a 99$ 360.  But anyways since when has MS cared to sell their brand when it conflicts with high profit margins?

not this year, not like they would make it cheaper than kinect

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Price cuts won't have that big of an impact this late in the gen for any console to be honest. Consoles are currently at its cheapest yet sales are down significantly.

Price cuts will simply slow down the decline in sales.

I think we will probably see the same trends for 360 and PS3, as we have been seeing, until the end of its lifetime. PS3 will continue to outsell the 360 for most of the weeks and 360 will probably outsell the PS3 during holidays. This will happen irrespective of price.

And in keeping with that, PS3 will continue to slowly increase the gap between itself and the 360 over the years.

This generation has shown this pattern now for the last 3 - 4 years. Nothing will change. The only seriously major changes we've had this gen was the PS3 slim + pricecut as well as the introduction of Kinect.

Perhaps $ony did, perhaps they didn't. We don't know. But anyways do you think spreading the Xbox brand is not a major goal for MS? Btw, at the beginning of every gen they didn't have high margins and they are still not healthy financially when it comes to the whole xbox-brand which contradicts your stereotypical thinking. Let them sell the box to whatever price they want.

If the 360 hits $99.99 I will be blown away. Sony had to be forced to take the PS2 to 99 on threats from EA and Activision of pulling support. At that point there was almost nothing left, the thing was like a DVD case. I think they would be just fine at $149 and $200. They still have to make a profit on hardware, and they will continue to sell plenty at those prices.

Sony is in a much tighter spot. The PS3 is still yet to have a SKU for $199. I think with the PS4 out there is no way they can have a PS3 SKU on the market for more than $199. If you are in the market for a console and one is $250 with a controller and 7 year old tech, and the other comes with a controller, a camera, a headset, and 10x more powerful multitasking hardware, for $400 you would have to be crazy to choose the later.

So I think Sony has to bring the 12GB to the US market for $150 and sell a 250GB for $200. This would put them and Microsoft on a level playing field in dated tech, and allow both companies to operate in the black at the hardware level.

As far as sales go. 360 has had a $200 unit on the market for 5 years, and Sony has yet to have a PS3 under $250. In that time Sony caught up and over took a year disadvantage. I think even if MS went to $100 - 130 for the most basic unit PS3 would continue to outsell the 360.
