I agree. They are catching up with recongnizable franchises since they introduce great new IPs, but 80% of their franchises from each generation are forgotten and become irrelevent. Sony will never have IPs that will be popular for decades like Mario and Pokemon.

I think the fandom of the two groups is different. I think that Nintendo fans are more committed to the franchises. They are devoted to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon etc. Whereas Playstation fans are devoted to the brand. Sony has dropped a good bit of their franchises over the years, but still maintained their fanbase. If Nintendo dropped Zelda or Mario, they would lose a lot of fans. I think that's the main distinction.

If you say so.

The only reason why I like gaming on the PS platform is because I know that they'll bring new IP's every gen. I'd be bored as fuck playing the same character/s every gen.. hell, if Sony kept on using the same franchises for each new iteration of consoles, I'd just play on PC. SCEE first party, second party and third party titles keep me coming back for more, not devotion to a brand. That's just fanboy-ism.

That's what I'm saying. You like the different experiences Sony brings each gen, but if Sony didn't bring uncharted next gen, it wouldn't kill you. You're devoted to the different kinds of games Sony brings each gen. The playstation strategy is what keeps you coming back for more.

If Nintendo completely ditched all their established IP's, they would lose a lot of their fans.

No, Nintendo's kinda unique in the following that they have with the Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, DK, etc. brands, these are franchises that have been supported for 30+ years now.

PS has a lot of fans, but I don't think they have as many "fanatics", the Playstation is more of a brand outlet to provide third party content. 1st/2nd party stuff is kinda like a bonus, but on Nintendo machines they very much define the platforms entirely.

It's the same, but it's not the same, Nintendo has history and tradition, an authentic company, Sony is a coperate company and it's gaming division is some what manufactured and can't create the same feeling you get from Nintendo, yes obviously people grew up playing Playstation but its not the same as if you grew up with Nintendo or Sega, just saying ;)

I'm a fan of both, actually. More of Sony than Nintendo, but my first console was the NES, then I got the SNES, GBA, DS and Wii (Only have xenoblade though)

I don't like the direction Nintendo is going with their consoles as of the Wii and I am vocal and critical of them, but Nintendo is home to a lot of great franchises that I personally love (Xenoblade, Pokemon, Mario & Luigi sagas, DKC, KH)

I think Sony and Nintendo fans are usually fairly neutral against one another and I bet there are a lot more Sony/Nintendo fans than there are Xbox/Nintendo fans.

Nah. I just like me games :) No need for silly brand loyalty, just as long as they bring the goods.. I'll happily buy it.

But, I agree with your other statement about Nintendo. They live by their franchises and they wouldn't be the company as they are without them. Sony on the other hand can approach things differently each gen. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I think the big difference is that Nintendo fans also play Nintendo games, while if you buy a Playstation most people play 3rd party games so I don't think they have the same kind of relationship with PS as others have to Nintendo. .. but that's just my thoughts.

this is very true, sony 1st party games dont sell nearly as high as nintendo ones.

But you said you'd get bored as fuck playing the same characters, so he is right.
