Forums - Sony - Sony should quit the electronics business?

Sony being out of Electronics is like Nintendo being out of Videogames. Doesn't make sense. Let Kaz do his job.

Yes, if all articles that announce this are any indicator, then yes Sony should quit the market very fast.

In the world of reality though, nobody in the market that is able to break even should quit, because to whoever wins the rewards are great.

Hell, ask Nintendo. *chuckles*

@OP. Nice link and video, thanks.

This is starting to become clearer and clearer, but this forum will deny it and probably blast your for even posting this so because well...you know.

Just look at the reviews their 2013 top end 1080p TVs are getting (KDL-55W900A). They can not compete on price or features... The can't compete on the cheap end either.

It may be harsh to say quit it entirely, but they should certainly drop some aspects, like TV. It's just a black hole for them right now.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Yes. Playstation CAN be turned around, but TVs are just not salvageable. The demand for newer tech (Smart, 3D, 4K) is not there and people don't want to upgrade yearly - ideally it isn't to be replaced at all.

I like Sony videocameras. We're using some 4000$ Sony cameras in my University, so, nah. They're cool.

Drop TV, keep music and movies.

But I think it'd be best if they drop TVs. I mean there was that one stage mess up with the 4k thing too. Leave TV to China and Samsung, not much you can do.

Not entirely no. Thought they were already dropping tv's.
I didn't get that question at the end, was that a joke?

They should focus on entertainment as far as I'm concerned, with smartphone and console hardware playing a big part in that.

That said, even so far as their horrid TV sector is concerned, I don't neccessarily think they need to step out, but rather just take a good long look at what others are doing to be profitable in the field. Do they really need to be on the forefront with these $20k 4K TVs that no one will be buying for a good five years minimum? It doesn't seem like a very smart investment.

In the TV department yeah, last CES they just announce like 5 4K television as if they were in high domain or something. Even though the PS4 and Vita are great devices, I feel Sony is pouring cash all over their devices and marketing and sort of missing the point that made the PS1 and 2 awesome consoles.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games
