Forums - Sony - Is VGC undertracking the PS3?

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html

We know that the latest numbers are accurate (4.9 million), due to various other sources confirming it, so I'm assuming the other numbers are accurate also. If so, it would put the PS3 at 10.49 million....a lot different than 9.62 million at VGC

Another day....another person mistakes selling to consumers and selling to retailers.

Short Answer: no, VGC is fine because they are measuring something different than what you are quoting.

...

lol at this.

No, vgchartz is not undertracking anything... those 4.9 million are shipped units, not sold to consumers

Says they sold 4.9 mil between October and December.....why would the others be wrong?

Same article says that during the same time period, the Wii sold 7 million:

So why do you guys consider the Wii numbers right, and the PS3 numbers wrong?

Console manufacturers do not sell directly to consumers, they sell to retailers. VGC tracks sold to consumers.

All I'm getting at is that VGC has numbers based closely to what Nintendo stated they have sold, and people don't complain, but when PS3 numbers differs, that makes other sources (Reuters, Sony THEMSELVES, NPD, etc) wrong.

This should be obvious, but just in case: http://vgchartz.com/methodology.php
