Forums - Gaming - Microsoft should consider selling Xbox and Bing businesses, says key analyst

Well Samsung may be interested in the brand, but they are currently actively purchasing Sony stock to leverage a buy out of the playstation brand so it may be too late for to go after Samsung, but maybe lg would be interested.

Microsoft has been great at using the xbox to launch or test other ideas from with in the company. They have also been successful at integrating the xbox line up with windows and their other services. I dont see what would be gained from a split.

lol no1 can be that dumb can they. came in hear expecting it to be the Pach Attack.

The Playstation brand is helping Sony, which is why Sony dedicates so much to it. The shareholders believe in the Playstation brand. As I've said before, MS shareholders can't stand the Xbox because they believe for years its plagued the interest of the direction of the company. MS makes a business of monopolizing OS and if they aren't doing that full time the investors are not happy. They are so glad Zune is gone though, but MS wasn't even listening to them on that.

Sony need the playstation to test and force their new hardware on people (ex : DVD, Bluray) and market their entertainement stuff (movies and music).

Even Playstation mobile is an attempt to make cross sales between vita, ps4 and mobile (play the same games on the go)

Compared to microsoft, wich has none of his other content on the xbox (except skype and the cloud on One), it's useful to them.

And come on, who uses bing ? Seriously.

These are big money waste in the name of market domination, and that's never a good thing.

(Yeah, yeah, 360 is a good console, but it doesn't mean it's not a waste of money from microsoft)

This is bs. Shareholders and investors invest in a company for one single reason: PROFIT.
Why is it that you guys always think that Sony is not all about the money?

Do you even know the major shareholders of Sony?

  1. Japan Trustee Services Bank, Ltd. (trust account) – (7.0%)
  2. Moxley and Company (depositary bank for ADRs) – (6.7%)
  3. The Master Trust Bank of Japan, Ltd. (trust account) – (5.1%)
  4. SSBT OD05 Omnibus China Treaty 808150 – (2.4%)
  5. Japan Trustee Services Bank, Ltd. (trust account 9) – (2.1%)
  6. State Street Bank and Trust Company – (1.2%)
  7. Japan Trustee Services Bank, Ltd. (trust account 1) – (1.0%)
  8. State Street Bank and Trust Company 505225 – (1.0%)
  9. Japan Trustee Services Bank, Ltd. (trust account 6) – (0.9%)
  10. Mellon Bank (for Mellon Omnibus US Pension) – (0.9%)

SSBT OD05 Omnibus China Treaty 808150 is believed to be a Chinese government-affiliated investment fund.

As you can see: Banks and investment companies own Sony. Nobody of them gives a *beeeep* about the Playstation and its fanbase.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Yes, Playstation is so irrelevant to the business that where is Kaz Hirai now in Sony corp in stature after saving the PS3? Look up the history of the Playstation, because shareholders laughed at the concept of  videogame console. The first gen changed their minds about gaming when Playstation dominated the industry and helped push spread formats allowing the market prices of said formats to be affordable to the masses, thus selling more outside the Playstation brand. The Playstation brand has been a shining light in a gloomy time for Sony as a company and its high time whether you like them or not that you realize this. Shareholders of Sony has long since accepted the Playstations place in the company and Sony is a far stretching media and technology company. Playstation fits in just fine. Its MS that are having problems with their stockholders. MS doesn't listen to them and probably never will.

You do know the Zune is not gone, just rebranded.  I still use the software and nothing has changed besides the name.  As for who uses bing, I actually use it for searching for videos and pictures because bing does it better than google.

The brand was rebranded but the tangible product was scrapped. They turned the digital portion they transfered to the console it into Xbox and its haunting my Windows 8 screen.

Right! and Intel should only make ARM chips from now on? This is why we shouldn't let stock people run things other than a portfolio- they lack any vision for the future. He only cares about the current stock price and dividend.

Reminds me of this President Herbert Hoover Quote: "We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land,..." (Right before the great crash of 1929.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
