I don't think that Sony + Nintendo working together would be mutually beneficial. It actually might be harmful to Sony.

Let's see, 2 Japanese companies who were competing with each other join forces to take on the greater parts of the world. This has happened before.

It's called The Square-Enix. Look where that ended up.

So no. Personally I think Nintendo and SEGA fit better, SEGA mascots pretty much sell on Nintendo consoles and some of the SEGA IPs can fill in the "mature" games that Nintendo doesn't have a lot of.

I think it would've been pretty cool playing the Nintendo Playstation. Too bad it was canceled a couple weeks before it began manufacturing. :-/
