Forums - Microsoft - You Don’t Hate the Xbox One, You’re Just Jealous

You know what's really funny is that there's all this hate towards M$ and the Xbox One for attempting to be an all-in-one multimedia device rather than a 100% pure games machine, yet in Sony's case every generation since the original Playstation they've done pretty much the same thing with their consoles in trying to broaden their appeal and reach more consumers.

PS2 pushed the DVD medium into the mass market, and was the first major home gaming console that had a primary function OTHER than just playing games. PS3 continued this trend introducing Blu-Ray and following along with other multimedia devices introducing all kinds of video and entertainment apps. Now we just had the PS4 reveal a short while back and they literally spent over a half hour at their presentation talking about SOCIAL MEDIA of all things and how it will integrate with their new console that's allegedly "all about the games" (except when it's not).

But hey, let's ignore all that and just attack M$ and the Xbox One for daring to further integrate itself into the living room by doing things like seamless transition between gaming, television and other multimedia functionality. Only Sony is allowed to try to connect all of your home electronics together, dammit!

the mainstream gaming media - aka the industry lapdogs, already in damage control mode. You KNOW the backlash against a console is big when it takes barely a day for the media to lash out at the consumers.

Sir, I think you mentioned the positive side and not the issue that some people are mad about.

Oh right I forgot... they're mad because they won't be able to get newly released games for $5 less "used" at GameStop.  Damn you, M$!!

I love Xbox. I despise Kinect.

Sounds like PR speak. There is absolutely a downside to them marketing this as an entertainment box. Unlike some people believe, MIcrosoft doesn't have unlimited funds. Every cent spent in securing some NFL deal or exclusive app, is money that could have been spend securing an exclusive game or even building a new studio. You can't built an everything box without something suffering.

Unfortunately, gaming is what's going to suffer. Now, that doesn't necesarily mean the system will get less games or that that the PS4 will be better at them. If you think about this from a publishers perspective, every minute you spend watching TV is a minute you could have spend playing a game. It's surprising that EA is supporting Microsoft so much when a few years from now Microsofts strategy could build this mentality that buying the new Halo can wait until you finish watching a season of Game of Thrones. Now, most of us already run into these problems, we do have limited time. What Microsofts problem is that it is positioning TV/Movies as more important then Games when most of us feel the opposite way.

Just stop.

Microsoft next year will spend more money on acquisitions next year than you'll ever see in your lifetime.  It'll invest more into research and design, than you'll ever see in your lifetime.  It spends more on a daily basis on games development than you'll ever make in one year.  So zip it.

You have no idea what my income is. I don't see how this is even relevant to the discussion. You're reflecting. Watch it.

It isn't good enough that the universal gamer reaction is negative about the Xbox One....oh no. We also have to stomp anything positive to keep MS at their lowest low at all costs.

lol.....sigh.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The more you stomp them, the more likely they'll apply some sort of firmware update to the Xbox One to fix these issues. If everyone complains enough now, maybe they'll have something ready for launch. Otherwise, everyone will have to complain by not buying it which will cause more long term damage.
