Forums - Sony - Eye 2.0 required to be plugged in?

We know Kinect 2.0 must be plugged in to play games. But is it gonna be the same with Eye 2.0. Is it correct that Eye 2.0 is packed in with PS4?

I read a comment somewhere that Eye 2.0 will have to be connected to PS4 for PS4 to play games "just like Kinect 2.0". But I haven't seen anything official saying this. Is it official or was that commenter making possibly incorrect assumptions?

VGLEAKS:

"When we unveiled Orbis, an enigmatic device called “Dual Camera” was also listed within the info.

“Dual Camera” appears to be an evolutioned HD Eyetoy instead of a Kinect device, based on the features offered right now.

It contains a pair of wide-angle cameras. Each camera offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (720p).

Sound is processed by a 4 microphone array working at 48 Khz.

The device can perform some non gaming tasks such as:

- Recognize the user and log in the system

- Video chat

In the gaming field it supports head and hand tracking as new game inputs. Currently it’s not clear if this device will support body tracking in the future as Kinect but it’s almost sure that it will be bundled with every Orbis system."

I thought there was another leak in which the last minute 8GB GDDR5 change made them not bundle PSEye or it would be too expensive or something.

Nah

The PS Eye isn't heavily integrated within the OS like Kinect is. Xbox 1 seems to be built around Kinect. XboxOne will be more Kinect driven than the 1st Kinect on 360

The only thing PS Eye seems to push right now on PS4 is the addition of seeing where the player is via the light bar

If everybody hates everything, then the PS4 and the XBONE will have the same fate the WIIU had.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

They will bundle it because Sony is pushing the whole "share" stuff heavily with PS4, I hope is not mandatory. Wait for E3.

I like the idea of voice recognition to log in that is one thing I would like to see the PS4 with.

Well games to actually look forward to can help avoid that.

I wouldn't be surprised. The very little we've seen of the PS4 makes me think that they're at least going to bundle the EyeToy with every system, even if it's not going to be required to be "plugged in" at all times.

I don't get these extra things. They're likely going to ramp up the cost greatly and as of yet I see nothing to actually "enhance" the games. That could change though so I'll reserve judgement.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Its no different from nintendo introducing the Wii mote or gamepad with each system. The intention is that it will be used in games for greater input but of course thats ultimately up to developers.
