Forums - Microsoft - Step by step event log into the next gen - Microsoft Edition

In the previous months we have seen that there is a much stronger support for the PS3 among developers.  While this isnt directly related to the XB-1, it is understood that when one console gains, the others lose accordingly. I'm not going to pull up quotes off of the internet, but anybody that has been on the Sony forums has seen several developers praising the PS4, which means that they are trying to ally themselves with it, and most likely, support it to a stronger degree than the Nextbox

Article on said support:

The PlayStation 4 has so far enjoyed a strong press coverage, developer praise and general buzz in the gaming industry. Sony have also revealed the strong launch titles and the long list of developer support that they will have for the PS4.

During the past few years the industry has changed. Once PlayStation exclusive franchises have gone multiplatform and the increase in development costs is not helping matters as well.

Initially the PlayStation 3 got a lot of  inferior version of multiplatform titles (example: Bayonetta) but Sony have done a great job in churning out exclusives and taking risks with new IP’s from their first party studios.

When Fergal Gara, PlayStation UK MD was asked if exclusive games or optimized multiplatform games will be the way to go for the PS4, he replied: ” I think content will always matter. It’s one of the reasons why it’s essential to have first-party studios.”

“So the role of first-party exclusives, I see as remaining important and you know, it depends on how the competitive landscape pans out as to whether there’s this battle for an extra slice of this or an extra feature of that between version A or version B. So it sort of depends on how the competitive landscape looks”, he said to NowGamer.

He also boasted of the strong support they have. ”But we’ve delighted we’ve got a great first-party line-up in the bag and great publisher support. You saw the logos last night. It was ‘can you see if one’s missing?’, you know? Rather than ‘who’s in?’”

With already a number of multiplatform games like Destiny, Assassin’s Creed 4 and Witcher 3 due for the PlayStation 4, backed up with a strong first party support, Sony are surely taking the right steps forward.

MSFT had its conference unveiling the nextbox, actually titled the Xbox One , or something remarkably similar to that.

In this MSFT has a few restrictions that have made 360 fans angry and upset over the direction that MSFT has taken its next console. (There will be more bro-statistics given later, some have already made the rounds in this forum).

One of these restrictions is that they will require that the console be online at least once a day, and I beleive for every initial installation.

Also, there will be a fee paid to MSFT, presumably, for every used game purchased, so MSFT is basically trying to take over the used market, and chuck that out the window. They will probably offer cheaper games, but is that enough?  This will probably cause some problems with Gamestop and other resellers, bc it seems obvious that not only will they be selling fewer used Xbox-One games, but MSFT's attempt to bring down or decrease the used market won't score any points with these guys at all.

the Xbox one will have 15 exclusives in the first year out, this is actually pretty good, they are starting off with a bang.

Xbox One won't allow indies to self-publish games

Independent developers cannot self-publish their own games on Xbox Live Arcade. Instead, they must get a publishing deal--either with Microsoft Game Studios or with a third-party partner. Games published on Xbox Live Indie Games are exempt from that policy, but that marketplace isn't necessary seen as viable.

Limitations imposed by Microsoft have prevented a number of games from ever appearing on Xbox 360. And apparently, Xbox One won't change how Microsoft approaches indie games.

When asked if developers will still need a publisher to get content onto Xbox Live, Matt Booty, general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms, told us that "as of right now, yes. We intend to continue to court developers in the ways that we have."

He did add that "I would also expect that for this new generation, that we're going to continue to explore new business models and new ways of surfacing content. But Microsoft Studios is a publisher that works with a wide range of partners, as do a lot of other people, to bring digital content to the box."

When it comes to self-publishing, Microsoft is the odd man out. Both Sony and Nintendo allow developers to publish their own games onto PlayStation Network and Nintendo Network, respectively. Microsoft's position stands in stark contrast to Sony, which has been aggressively pursuing indie content for PS4.

The X-box One will have a live action series made by spielburg, even better it's Halo!
http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/05/steven-spielberg-halo-xbox/

Amidst all of the hullabaloo – and total gamer glee – surrounding today’s announcement of Microsoft’s new Xbox One came a special highlight for TV fans: the news that Steven Spielberg would be producing a live-action series based on the Halo game universe.

Well, this is awesome news. When someone who is as much of a kid-at-heart as Spielberg is signed on to work on a show based on a videogame world, nothing but greatness can come of it. The series, which will be available on Xbox Live, will be produced in conjunction with the game’s developer 343 Industries. During the Xbox One announcement in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft’s president of entertainment and digital media Nancy Tellem said that “TV on the Xbox One will immerse you, allowing you to virtually jump into the action,” and in a video statement Spielberg enthused about what could be done with the first-person shooter in a series.

“For me, the Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet,” Spielberg said.

The series is just one of many new pieces of content being developed for Xbox, which in its next iteration will offer lots of integration of the gaming console’s many functions with television and streaming video (see Wired’s exclusive first look at everything the console offers here). A series based on the hugely popular game is the chance to combine “the storytelling magic of television with the interactive innovation of Xbox One,” 343 studio head Bonnie Ross told the crowd during the announcement.

Further details about Spielberg’s role in the new Halo-based series weren’t revealed, but the director is known to be a longtime fan of gaming and a legendary world-builder, so it’s probably safe to say the universe of Master Chief is in good hands.

Sony stock JUMPS after MSFT's xbox premeire, leading analysts and the general public to not be impressed

Microsoft's Xbox One reveal event coincided with a dramatic jump in Sony's stock price.
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/05/21/sony-stock-jumps-following-xbox-one-reveal.aspx

Sony's stock leapt up to $22.55 from when the Microsoft event started at 1pm Pacific time, a significant jump from the $20.94 it was at noon Pacific.

Microsoft's stock price, on the other hand, barely moved from the beginning to the end of the event, opening at $34.99 and closing at $35.02.

A lot of factors play into stock pricing, of course, but it's difficult to ignore the remarkable spike in Sony's value that took place during Microsoft's event

Edit:
oh well you can't win em all right? I mean that series sounds like it will bring in a gazillion from consumers, there is a lot of great news, but with this - not so much. haha

when one gains one loses?

really?

ms will have just as much support as sony... probably more so. money talks.

Ubisoft, EA, Activision and others have already shown that this is obviously the case, they know where they had success in the 7th gen as well as moderate success with the Xbox in the 6th gen, publishers don't forget.

the original picture and resulting meme:

ok that's enough for now haha

Well several sources are indicating that this is a result of perceptions following the conference, and you know that. You can google " Sony Microsoft stock conference" and get 20 or 30 in results in the first 5 or so pages talking about Sony's stock jumping as a result of this, so if there is any error on my part it is entirely excusable.

I personally just posted the article, and therefore have no need to do any research, thank you very much.
