Forums - Gaming - Mainstream Media loves the Xbox One - Are "hardcore" gamers becoming irrelevant?

Will the Xbox One be successful?

Yes 68 28.10%

Maybe 63 26.03%

No 111 45.87%

Total:242

So if Microsoft shows games at E3 and clarifies all these misunderstandings, will the hardcore gamers be happy again?

lol, The Sun never change.

But the news that really got gamers salivating was the exclusive gaming deals they announced.Call of Duty: Ghosts takes the critically-acclaimed franchise into the next generation. Downloadable content for the new Call of Duty game, Ghosts, is available exclusively first on the Xbox, as is FIFA 14′s Ultimate Team feature. Fans were treated to some spectacular footage from both flagship titles, as well as some glorious footage of Forza Motorsport 5 — one of a number of titles that will be available as soon as the console is out.

Ultimate Team isnt an Xbox One exclusive. Special Ultimate Team content is Xbox One exclusive. I hate The Sun. Worst, yet most popular "newspaper" in the UK.

Anyway. Mainstream media are lapping it up because it was targeted at the mainstream media. This reveal was putting gamers 2nd. The main negatives that have been discussed came about after the conference. The talk about no b/c, used game fees and having to be online came after the reveal. Seeing as these are talking directly about the conference then theres no surprise a lot of it is positive.

Wii showed that since 2006.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Haven't hardcore gamers always been the minority?

yeah, but they are always who buy the console on launch period.

Exclusive Fifa DLC is huge though for Europe, don't know why this is being played down.

COD is the same, pure mass market geared. DLC first, no doubt will have commercials with just the Xbox One logo at the end. They got the mainstream covered, that's half the battle MS.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Have to say I don't understand your thread, I fully realize and am aware that you're not in the slightest amused about Microsoft's direction with used games and their unclarity about the online useage, but you can't really say they're ignoring hardcore games. all the big "hardcore" hitters this holiday have been confirmed for Xbox One as well as games in 2014 etc.

Maybe you don't even like the Apps and stuff, but which casual game has Microsoft been touting for Xbox One exactly?

Stealth edit: Actually, to clarify, were you talking about the article, or your own twitter feed?

To make the threads point....WiiU sales are purely by "core" gamers. Casuals aren't having any of it. It goes to show that core gamers numbers aren't enough to fuel a console.

i was reading reactions on german news-sites too.

- spiegel.de which is a really big news site -> negative about the bad things, positive about the good things, so all in all neutral, at least not biased
- golem.de (kind of a IT-news site) -> very negative report. people in forums bitch only about the big brother aspect, they don't even talk about the TV features or games at all
- heise.de ( IT-new also) -> very positive. not ONE bad word in their report.
- winfuture.de (IT-news) -> mostly positive.

but i'd say the most of the people who comment, are in rage. the ones who defend the XBoxOne are really few. it was surprising to me to see how positive some articles were, leaving out all the negative aspects. i am interested how this continues.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

I don't think the mainstream media knows that the Xbox is going to have protection against used games and the like.

Nor about the needing to be online thing.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Incorrect, the Wii sold to all demographics at launch as it attracted people with the revolutionary motion gaming.  You don't need the "hardcore" to sell at launch but Microsoft will be catering for them too at E3.
