Forums - Gaming - Xbox One and PS4 games can be re-sold, confirms GameStop president

VG247

GameStop president Tony Bartel has confirmed that both PS4 and Xbox One games can be re-sold at its stores, following confusion of how the re-sale of games on both formats will work.

Speaking with Forbes, Bartel said, “Both Sony and Microsoft have said games can be resold and that’s exactly what we anticipated. It’s a recognised way to make these games more affordable. All three new platforms understand that.

“As people upgraded to PS3 they traded in their old systems and libraries, which is why Sony made the move to not support backwards compatibility with later iterations of PS3. That’s why the ‘buy, sell, trade’ model works well. It enables people to purchase new games by trading in their old ones. We expect to see the same thing with this transition for PS4 and Xbox One. Trade-ins allow for a seamless transition.”

The common belief is that chains like GameStop and Game make the bulk of their money through repeated sales, but Bartel said that 70% of the company’s $1 billion market sales comes from the purchase of new games.

What do you make of the above? It’s still not clarifying much is it? Let us know what you thinkbelow.

Aren't they supposed to be enraged by the betrayal of Microsoft according to a lot of posters on this site?

Still, this doesn't give us any information.

It wasn't that the games couldn't be re-sold, it's that you had to pay to install them when you got back home.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Lmao...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around that gem.

I'm starting to get a feeling that Sony is doing the same thing with used and borrowed games as MS. It would be funny to hear some posters opinions if Sony does it too.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Microsoft can't seem to properly communicate how reselling Xbox One games will work. What makes you think the president of GameStop has the details of how it will work?

I won't be buying a PS4 if they do.

What, you were expecting hypocrisy?

There will be hypocrisy, you can guarantee that on this forum.

On this, I doubt it. I think as far as it goes some PS fans will still buy a PS4 while grumbling about the shit Sony has pulled on used games, because the gaming addicition's got to be fed, and they would slit their throats before they bought a Wii U or Xbone. But I won't be falling into line, reluctantly or otherwise on this.

No longer being a console gamer, after I get through my PS3 wishlist, would probably be a very good thing for me. If it comes to that then I should probably write Microsoft a thank-you letter for turning me away from console gaming.

I also won't be typing on gaming forums at 2:50AM like I am now.
