Forums - Gaming - Incredible how everyone seems to screw up with the third console!

Nintendo did it with the N64.

Sega did it with the Saturn.

Sony did it with the PS3.

And while the Xbox One hasn´t been released yet and the 'no one knows the future' talk is in effect here, all those nasty rumors that are now being confirmed might just be a train wreck in the making.

this is way to soon. there is a lot of confusion about a lot of stuff. things should be more clear after E3. i say this is way to soon

I'm pretty sure Sega's third console was the MegaDrive we know it as the Genesis in NA.

As far as the XboxOne goes it hasn't failed nor has it succeeded.

The rebuttal, here, is that if Xbox One ends up just as beloved as the Saturn, PS3, or especially the N64, that will still be a hell of a run.

The third console curse! Ha! I hope MS clears up some of the things brought up today, too many conflicting reports. Though, I have to admit that the TV functionality did impress me. And how fast you can switch between programs and apps. I wish they would have mentioned a price, but I suspect they are waiting for Sony to reveal their price first.
The price point will be a big factor for a lot of people. No one wants to pay $500 for a device to switch between channels quickly if they are not interested in gaming.

E3 isn't going to clear up our issues with the Xbox One. Its a console that requires an online connection and has basically gone all digital. The discs merely reduce the time it would take to download the games.

If the PS4 doesn't follow suit, I think the Xbox One is going to get dominated.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

so from this we can conclude that PS4 will sell less and PS5 will shoot up to the top once again?

Aye. PS4 will either push Sony out of the market (Dreamcast) or be a nadir in their market significance (GameCube).

It's Nintendo that's out in uncharted waters.
