Forums - Gaming Discussion - oh noes@!!!!! kutaragi to nintendo?

Y'know what? Let's play this as a "what if." Not saying it's remotely possible, but let's say there's a parallel universe where Ken Kutaragi is hired by Nintendo. The guy is good at what he does, he just needs some oversight. If he can allow himself to be second banana to Nintendo's top guys, and limit his contributions to "specialist" stuff, he could be an invaluable asset to Nintendo's hardware team. If he insists on taking the same role that he did in SCE, it'll be a catastrophe. In a parallel universe where this could happen, of course.

whilst nintendo says its unfounded just the very idea that THAT madman could be working at nintendo sends a shiver down my spine......

And this is what I meant by ninis and xbots on these forums.. this leaks what I said.

Ken was a great man, and pushed the game industry to a whole new level. Just because Nintendo is to stupid to realize even their fans want to be able to play their CDs/DVDs in their console doesnt mean you guys should take it out on the consoles that can... (xbox, 360, PS, PS2, PS3, DreamCast, SCD, did the Jaguar play Cds?). I know to many people who have griped about their Wiis not being about to play them. Honestly they make a profit on the system.. was to hard to put a $5 diode in the darn thing to read CD/DVD?

Anyways, Ken is and will always be the industry's greatest visionary. He always wanted to push the industry to the point where anything was possible. Like the mind spores in the PS9 commercial.. I want the industry to actually make it to that level... Nini will hold what Ken and a ton of gamers wants. Thank God Sony will still use Ken's insight on the future PlayStations.

Fanboys (not Sony because most Sony fanboys I know have brains) plus use your head and tell me what do you want to see this industry go. Do you want fun with decent/crap graphics, or fun with awesome graphics? Sony might not have pushed the industry that far this gen but its alteast trying to push it into the technical realm thats needed for fully interactive, realistic games. I dont know about you, but id love to be in a VR world shooting up the bad guys.

Honestly? I'd prefer fun with decent/crap graphics. That would mean games which are cheaper to produce, and thus cheaper to buy. It also means games that can be produced faster, which means I have a better selection. Case in point: I'd love to play Duke Nukem Forever. But its makers are so tied up in the "awesome graphics" element, they just won't put it out. if they would just release the game, even at the graphics level it was 5 years ago, I'd be having more fun with it than I am currently, and I'd probably be playing its sequel before the one from our real timeline comes out. I'm not trying to take away what Kuturagi did, but there are a lot of people who would argue that he did more to harm the industry than to help it. Britney Spears sold more albums than Velvet Underground, I'll remind you.

actually DNF was because they were trying to make the best FPS in the world.. that was their goal.. DNF is now set on a different track now.. I expect it to be out in mid-2008 now.

Oh please, the guy is responsible for a hell of a lot during his time at the PS helm, and he deserves a lot of respect for it. Criticizing the guy like that says more about you than it does about him.

But while we can respect all he's done, that doesn't mean we can't still have a good natured laugh about some of the things he's said about his latest baby, the PS3. So to all, I give you, the words of Kenny K.

“The PS3 is not a game machine “

“Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan (Karate master), and Microsoft is still not a black belt. Just like with their operating systems, they might come out with something good around the third generation of their release.”

“I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect’s blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It’s the same as that.”

"This time, Microsoft has stated clearly that it is going after PlayStation. However, they're going not after the PlayStation 3, but the PlayStation 2. They were looking at 2, and that's why Xbox 360 became like that."

PS3 is “for consumers to think to themselves ‘I will work more hours to buy one’. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else.”

“Microsoft is trailing behind us, but they are not a threat. They are good at improving [on products], but we will be advancing to the next level with revolutionary technology.”

“We’re not going to equip the PS3 with a HDD by default, because no matter how much capacity we put in it, it won’t be enough.”

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Ken Kuturagi and the Playstation 1 and 2 took console gaming that was considered 'kiddie' and made it mainstream. Everyone had a PS2, even people who wouldn't normally play video games had 'em.

All console companies owe a lot to the PS and Ken Kuturagi and the minds behind the first 2.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

"Responsible for a hell of a lot" and "deserves a lot of respect for it" don't *necissarily* go hand in hand.  I fully recognize the former, but the latter isn't a given.  Bush is a good example of someone who is "responsible for a hell of a lot," but doesn't even deserve so much as the 25% approval rate he currently sports.  Kutaragi did a lot, but it's legitimate to point out that not all of it was good.  He marketed two consecutive under-powered machines as over-powered machines, and got away with it.  I wouldn't mark that under "good," personally.

But then again, I'm posting at 1:00 AM again... maybe ignore this post...

thank you stof, some light hearted poking was all that this was about
