Xbox One and Used Games

We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

LOL. An admirable attempt to spin even as he's confirming all the worst aspects of this bullshit.

Where´s BenV?...I´d like to read his opinion on that.

My opinion.

Screw MS if this is true. 100% Sony PS4 fanboy now if they dont block.

And not to trust certain people who obviously were feeding me false information about this console

Please note my opinions are my own and not that of my employer.

Sudden change of heart.

So essentially they will have an in house Gamestop type system. Also you can bet game prices will drop much faster than before (and there will probably be more sales) If those two things happen then I'm perfectly OK with that. Even if neither of them happen I'll still get the Xbox One because it looks like a kickin system.

non-sense games will be more expensive, they will need higher sells at full price to make a profit and by killing the used game market outside of their console they won't have an incentive to drop their prices faster

What you mean like PC games which drop in price incredibly fast (and are especially cheap if you buy them on demand)?

The problem being that Sony might doing something similar and are keeping quiet about this as well.

This has just become THE QUESTION everybody will be asking until E3.

And not very surprising. There is another reason why this gen lasted so long, because it needed to be longer in order to make a profit off those hardware losses. MS made it's 360 profitable like when? 2011-2012? As for Sony well...yeah. Only the Wii made insane profits from the get-go.

Normally, we'd have started an entirely new gen by now.  What Sony and MS are aiming to do is make a profit as quickly as possible, coming off from last gen. Easiest 1st target is used games. Publishers agree with this too as long as they get a cut. Else we're going to be seeing a long gen again.

Which makes me wonder the hell Nintendo's expecting out the industry in the upcoming years.

Of course MS will be making more money now blocking used games.  But I believe this attitude has more to do with developers, which for some reason feel themselves being robbed by Gamestop and alikes thus pressuring MS to implement this.

I really thought the amount of bad press this will give MS, would  make them give up on this.

About Nintendo:  By the way things are going with videogames right now, Maybe they don't think there will be an industry in the upcoming years,

releasing games on pc is cheaper than on console, you don't have to pay a fee to one of the big three, and most of the times when you see a price cut it's just during a sale they go back full price when the sale is done. They also have incentive to cut the prices on Pc because of piracy, the xbox one and ps4 will probably stay locked for a while because of the way they are set up ( almost always online and stuff)

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

No way can this be true.

Phil Harrison is just doing Sony's work from the inside.

LOL,

I don’t get what MS are trying to do here, are they trying to sell a console, or are they trying to destroy the used games market?

If the latter is what they want, why should MS be the one that gets to decide that the industry no longer needs/supports used game by forcing it down our throats, is that even fair to gamers? Because as a consumer i could really care less about these companies bottom line as it benifits me in no way, why the hell should I. Used games have been around for literally decades and now MS wants to stop it completely?

Screw them and Sony if they try to pull this off, no gamer should want this.

This console is the most unattractive product ever, MS needs to fix this before launch.

Interesting day for sure. I think gamers will be getting a wake up call. I surely do not have any real answers, but if you go by what already exists out there, this is how it will go down.

Games will be tied to your user account. Same thing as Steam. You log in, you see your list of games, you can download and install one if you haven't already done so. You can play your game. For a store bought copy, you insert your disc, install the content, and register it with your CD Key. MS has been using CD Keys for everything BUT games for years, no surprise there. Put the disc on the shelf, you most likely wont touch it again.

Now, it seems like MS will introduce something similar to how Amazon allows Kindle books to be traded (at publishers discretion of course). You "lend" the game to someone with an Xbox ID(gamertag). That person sees the game show up in their library for 2 weeks or so. The original owner no longer sees the game in his library. The "lendee" can download and play it all he wants, but the game will deactivate after the lend timer expires. The game now shows up in the "lender"'s library.

Also sounds like there will be a "sell" option. This will be the most interesting since there really isnt a digital model of this anywhere that I know of. A lot of questions come up. There is no "condition" status to be aware of. Allowing the sales of a game lower than the MS online store price would undercut MS, doubt they'll allow that. I imagine MS would love to be come the broker between the buyer and seller and charge a transaction fee. Maybe it will look like Blizzard's RMAH, where people bid on the rights to play a game. The seller gets the $ and the game is removed from his library.

One thing seems like a safe bet. The game being a physical piece of media days are going away. The value is not the disc, its the CD key that is attached to. I cant imagine that Sony is too far away from this as well, but its possible they dont adopt this model. Its a gutsy move for MS.. and im sure both camps are watching each other very closely how they implement this. Same reason why nobody is putting all their cards down yet.

So no fee as long as you signed into an account eh?

Which means you need to make one in the 1st place. Which means unless you make an account via internet connection no used games.

Would not be surprised if this account was a Gold account. And all others required a fee. FK THIS.
