Forums - Microsoft - External device needed for LIVE TV

Xbox One’s live TV fucntionality will only be available in the US at launch, a press release from Microsoft has confirmed.

Well, that's unfortunate.

I'm guessing the 'supported receiver device with HDMI' would be a standard (supported) cable box?

But aren't cable-boxes nearly obsolete now that TV's have built-in receivers where you just plug in that little card from a cable provider?

So most likely you can just use your TV as a receiver for Xbox TV too, assuming you have a modern TV of course.

Sounds like HD DVD all over again. I'm sure it will make tons of money though. Good feature that isn't a good reason to buy it for. Everyone has a TV anyway

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Would have preferred something similar to Freeview and play TV for PS3.

Hopefully PS4 will do this.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

obviously...

what did you think the hdmi in was for?

this is how av receivers work....

good grief

Who are you talking to?

Because its not a cable box.

Same as GoogleTV.

It can only search and connect to what you have on your particular provider due to reading it from the given cable/sat box and internet information.

Its a pass-through system. Everything will connect to your XboxOne and then to TV. This way TV input is never really changed and XboxOne controls the changing of channels, your DVR, etc.

Its something WiiU is attempting to be with its Nintendo TV service. However, it clearly is not at that level yet. Though it needs to if it wants to remain competitive. Though, with that data forced to the gamepad vs in the same TV screen, MSs approach is better, faster, and more streamlined.

No, you still need set top boxes.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!
