Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

Microsoft are making this far more complicated than it should be. Either you need to pay a fee or you don't.

I guess they are pushing for digital only? If that is the case Gamestop better not sell the XOne at all.

We always knew this would be happening, but this seems a bit aggressive for the console market. PC users had this forced on them gradually becuase retailers stopped stocking games; digital downloads became the easiest way to aquire games.

MS seem to be trying to force the issue before consumers have a chance to adapt as most console games are still purely physical and retail based. It's like they're taking the worst aspects of PC gaming (resource heavy OS, no reselling of games, single title per account etc.) without the advantages (open system, mod community, upgradeable hardware etc.).

If true I can imagine some retailers might be a bit reluctant to give Xbox One shelf space... unless they have a lot of accessories!

Weird, that's the exact opposite of what Xbox Support said on Twitter.

I don't know what to believe.

This is what I was talking about in my earlier post; you would have thought the company would have a line to give concerning this fee that was clear and concise.

This is all too confusing.

Wow, this news changes my mind about MS and Xbox One entirely. I'm not buying it, I think a lot of people will change their minds about the system also. It's back to PS4 day one for me. PS4/Wii U will be my combo this gen.

If yr net is down for more than 24hrs u cant play offline. So Xbox one games do require Internet connection to play offline...

Just a thought but I think the registration system breaches fair use laws.

What if i want to swap a game with a friend ?
What if I have rented a game from Blockbusters ?

Fair use allows you to legally make a copy - if you can. It doesn't mean that it has to be physically possible to do so. You see the fair use law is just saying it's not illegal to do so, it provides no provision for giving you access to actually make a copy.

So in effect it was designed to take the "wrong" out of doing so - that is all.

This may be some sort of misunderstanding. The rumored used games system doesn't make any sense.

Why is MS allowing all this confusion?
