Forums - Sony - Uncharted is over? Sony registers domains for The Last of Us 2 and 3

i'd hardly take that as confirmation but..

..in naughty dog i trust. if they think it's time to move on and introduce something else than you better believe it's time to move on and introduce something else. i love uncharted, really i do. ..but if they are moving on it's because they have an even better idea they want to wow us with.

I don't think so. Its one of the PS3's best selling franchises so it would be silly to just end it.

Naughty Dog has confirmed to Edge Magazine in an interview with game director Justin Richmond, that the studio’s flagship series on the PlayStation 3 still has more life in it and will likely NOT conclude in the current-gen without at least one more game. Which would be “Uncharted 4″.

To quote:

“You see it in the movies. They constantly reboot things you just saw ten years ago. You’re like: “Wait a minute. I just saw that!” Spider-Man is just ridiculous. It’s something you have to be careful of with any kind of creative endeavour, and the lure to reinvent yourself is always there. But one good thing is that we feel we’re not done with Drake yet; we haven’t done all we wanted to do, and there are still technical hurdles and goals we want to get over, and do even more stuff in gameplay… We’re very cogniscent of the legacy of what Drake is, and that every game should advance the story and the genre.”

That interview is over 2 years old; it's possible he was just speculating or referring to GA.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Now that the Uncharted series WAS over. Not "is". Yeah, it's similar, but it has a different nuance.

It sounds like he means they stopped working on it at the time (ND team B, or whatever).

ITS NOT OVER, IT CANT BE ;_;

(Doesnt make sense consider UC sells good though)

It's for the best that it ends now, at least for home consoles. If you think about it you don't really want them to run the franchise into the ground with more sequels/prequels, they achieved what they wanted to achieve with Uncharted and now it's time to move on.  You have to consider that Naughty Dog worked on nothing but Uncharted games for 6 years, they must be sick of the franchise by the end of UC3 after making 3 very similar games. I doubt Naughty Dog really care much about sales, as long as they're in the green it doesn't bother them. If they did care about sales they wouldn't be making TLoU but instead an Uncharted 4.

ND split into 2 teams and 1 is lucky enough to work on something new (TLoU) but what of the first team? Do you think it's fair that they are forced to make another UC game just because they know it'll probably be safe? I don't think so. I think they want to move on to something more inspired. It does make sense that they move on to bigger and better things. Sony really tried to make Uncharted into a huge franchise with their most ambitious marketing campaigns and giving away millions of copies via bundles but it's still not very big so they obviously will want to create a new IP next generation that could be a bigger and better franchise without depending on so much help from Sony to be successful.

To some up for people skipping to the end, Uncharted should end on home consoles & Naughty Dog should create a new IP to define a new generation of consoles instead of going with the safe option of milking more Uncharted games.

Regardless of whether or not they're really done with Uncharted, I honestly think more developers should move on from their franchises after they've completed the story they wanted to tell. Sure, you can always make another entry, but don't we want these awesome devs to move onto new projects?

I mean of course there publishers will never let a big money making franchise go quietly into the night, but I imagine that for the developers, and for us gamers it's more interesting to see what else they can come up with.
