Forums - Sales - Persona 4 Golden Vs. Persona 3 Portable

Persona 4 golden is indeed quite good. I didnt enjoy Person 3 portable as much due to most of it beeing on 2D images and only the dungeons on 3D, but P4G is full 3D and has the animation scenes in there. Its quite good.

With that said, i wish they would untie days passing with visiting the dungeons. It incentivates not to go play the dungeons more than once per event. I also think that they are too strict with the social links and they extend for too long. I'd like to see them reduced to level 8 max.

About the topic, i agree. It would be insanity not to release Persona 5 on the Vita, Just in Japan its garanteed to sell 400-500k units.

Well VGChartz adjusted P4G down nearly 90k after the holiday's so i'm going to say its pretty accurate.

I doubt it...back in January we know P4G was a little above 50k in the US. Which seems pretty good but I doubt it increased to 130k in NA.

I don't think you can assume that at all.

There are other examples of overtracked JRPGs here. It's a pretty safe assumption.

I know that JRPGs have been overtracked in NA recently, but jumping to the conclusion that they are all overtracked outside of Japan is not a safe assumption at all.

And yes, P4G has already been adjusted down significantly from such overtracking; http://www.vgchartz.com/game/62901/persona-4-the-golden/Comments/

Huge downward adjustment in the USA for this game from the NPD numbers. Was 160k in NA before, now 73k in USA alone. Ouch =/

i think the download sales is high on both titles.

Don't use VGC sales for these games. We know they're overtracked. OG Persona 4 being the worst of the bunch, most likely.

Has Atlus release official figures?

The only official figures that Atlus released that I know of are for Persona 4 PS2.

http://www.siliconera.com/2009/10/06/well-how-many-copies-did-persona-4-and-devil-survivor-sell/

The game sold 110k in its first 7 months (Dec 2008 release - July 2009 sales cutoff), where it will have sold its most amount of copies. VGC has Persona 4 at 340k in NA...

JRPG tracking here is pretty bad so you can assume all the sales figures for these games for outside of Japan are overtracked.

I don't think you can assume that at all.

It's actually the safest assumption you could possibly have. Outside of big JRPGs (read: FF and DQ), assume all are overtracked.

It's not just recently, JRPG sales have been overtracked for a long time now.

If P4G is only at 78k in the US (as of Jan 26, the last date shown) then that seems OK. Maybe slightly overtracked but nothing major I don't think. But the US is by far the biggest game market in NA. It's really doubtful that the rest of NA gave P4G an additional 50k or so to reach the 130k number VGC has P4G as in NA.

So do you know just how long the overtracking has gone on, and crucially do you know which games haven't received corrective adjustments after the fact? Or are you assuming none have like you did just now, incorrectly, with P4G? (Was that another safe assumption on your part?

I definitely don't think that NA overtracking (which we know has been corrected for some games) results in us all assuming that all JRPGS in every country except Japan must be overtracked.

If you have a PS3 buy Persona 3 FES on PSN it's the best version of P3. Persona 4 is better in most aspects but I think the story, in particular the ending of Persona 3 is better. It's definetly an emotional roller coaster of a game, prepare for manly tears.

You're forgeting that SONY's consoles are region free and for quite some time the US version of P4G was the only one available in English. I have a US version which I bought from Play-Asia (for example).

Look at your games boxart and see what region rating it uses. That might count as a sale for that region.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

It is a US copy, the only reason why I bought it from Play-Asia and not from my usual videogamesplus is because the postage was free and I'm a cheap bastard lol (Anyway it's ESRB rated and cover is bilingual - French/English).
