This generation Halo was more popular than Gran Turismo has ever been. Time will tell whether the post 2009 milking will hurt the long term viability of the franchise. But if the trends continue, Halo as a franchise should pass Gran Turismo by next gen.

Obviously neither game is even comparable to Mario or even Pokemon.

GT6 on PS3 will do so much worse than GT5. Can't wait to compare it to Halo 4.
If GT had yearly releases, it would not be even close to Halo.

I would say halo is bigger than GT. Ppl talk more about it,also alot of ppl buy a Xbox solely for Halo, meanwhile I don't often hear ppl say they bought a Playstation solely for GT. When asked about why Sony fans are Sony fans, they usualy mention a bunch of other franchise along GT. If Halo was the ONLY Xbox first party franchise (not trying to troll but it's almost the case :P) the Xbox would do fine thx to Halo. Meanwhile take away all Sony first party franchise except for GT, the PS3 would'nt do anywhere near as good as the Xbox imo.

But their is no doubt that the biggest first party IP is Mario. The second is Pokémon. You need to be a clueless fanboy to say otherwise. Halo is 3rd imo, GT 4th and Zelda 5th.


Its the all encompassing racer and with every installment it just grows larger and larger in offerings. In Europe its apart of culture. It put his claim on the racing audience back in the 90's. If it wasnt for GT the racing genre would've been seen as niche. after the 90's and early 2000's.

Grand Turismo was bigger in the previous generation but in the 7th I would say Halo was bigger. Ofcourse if you look at each region specifically, then obviously Halo will be biggest in regions where the Xbox is more popular, and Grand Turismo will be more popular in regions where the PS3 is dominant.

It's kind of a silly comparison. Halo, is a world, a universe, philosophy ,existentialist ideas, science fiction and fantasy. It has inspired, games, movies, novels, debates, events, toys, and Halloween costumes.

Grand Turismo is a perfectly fine racing game, but who dresses up like that for Halloween? And the move with Clint Eastwood was nice, but I fail to see how it ties into the game. There are almost like no races.

If you are asking which one helps sell more consoles. I think we will have to wait until the Xbox Reveal, and see if Halo gets as much mention as Grant Turismo did at the PS4 event.



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Lol, WTF?!? I'm actually not even sure if you're kidding.

 

I think Halo is for a reason I haven't seen yet. Halo put Xbox on the map, that alone makes it the biggest. Without Halo, the Xbox, 360 and neXbox may never have been, or atleast as big.

It is Gran Turismo and imo... pretty clearly

Gran Turismo does very impressive numbers. It's a racer... a sim racer at that. The racing genre isn't even that big right now. Probably not top 3... certainly not top 2. Not too many multiplatform racing games can even come close to GT numbers. GT is at the top of the racing genre... sim or arcade.

Halo is big and does impressive numbers as well. But it's a shooter in a time where shooters are the "thing" to play. And it's not even the biggest shooter on Xbox. It gets beat out by another shooter on it's own console.

GT is more important to Playstation then Halo is to Xbox. GT is bigger than Halo

The fuck do I care about gens? GT has sold more, thats an undeniable fact.

You can't just look at how many units were sold throughout the life of the series. Using your logic, IPs that have become irrelevant are still successful.

Its an undeniable fact that Halo has sold significantly more units than GT for about the last 6 years.

Not only has sold significantly more units in recent years. But it made Xbox Live a very successful service even before CoD was a mega hit.
