Gran Turismo because it has sold more.

Not this gen.

But GT4 might change that!

Nah, just kidding. Halo sold more this gen. :-p

The fuck do I care about gens? GT has sold more, thats an undeniable fact.

You can't just look at how many units were sold throughout the life of the series. Using your logic, IPs that have become irrelevant

But GT isnt irrelevant. It sold more than Halo.

Did I say GT was irrelevent? Nope.

You've determined over all equals bigger. You aren't considering GT has been around longer and Halo is closing the sales gap. Halo is doing that because its bigger.

Look at it this way. Since 2001, Gran Turismo has apparently sold 50 million units. But that number is bloated with heavy bundling, a PSP release, and Prologues.

The number Halo has sold in retail on consoles is about 55 million. But we don't know how much that series sold digitally and on the PC. There was a Halo Reach digital bundle we aren't even counting.

If you want further proof Halo is bigger. Go to Walmart and tell me which series has more merchandise. Halo or Gran Turismo.

3 GTs since 2001 vs something like 8 Halo games and Halo only sold a few million more? Yeah, GT is bigger.

ps: in europe we dont have walmarts and apparently we're the biggest audience of GT.

If you just wanna look at 3 GTs since 2001, sales drop down to 36 million. Just Halo 2, 3, 4, and Reach (4 games) is about 38 million. :-p

If GT was released more frequently each release would just sell less. GT5 reached its current number after years of bundling and sitting in the bargain bin.

1st: The prediction I made is almost 4 years old I guess. Really?
2nd: God of War III never made it to 5 million, but it got closer than I thought. I give you that.
3rd: offtopic?

Anyway, your predictions, regarding Sony, are generally skewed. Saying: "I can't wait to compare it to Halo 4" is an eyebrow scratcher. Besides it being the biggest first party IP from Sony, will it be comparable to a game that launched a year earlier? Do you consider that a better comparison than, say, Halo: Reach vs GT5?

Link or it did not happen. You are making things up now.
I remember that I was wrong for a Resident Evil 5 prediction regarding the PS3 and Xbox 360 split in 2009. Why don't you try to dig that up?

And the timeline between GT6 and Halo 4 is just perfect to compare. If anything, Halo: Reach is an advantage for GT in this comparison.

Xbox 360 released in 2005, Halo 4 in 2012, 2 years after the last major Halo release.
PS3 released in 2006, GT6 in 2013, 3 years after the last major GT release.

Sounds like a reasonable comparison, don't you think?

Lets be frank, you aren't very positive towards the brand and I've already pointed out a skewed view of yours. Adding more would just look worse for you and derail further.

Now two things, Halo 4 didn't launch beside the NextXbox, as GT6 will to the PS4 (a HUGE difference in and of itself). The Halo: Reach/GT5 comparison is the best there is. Same year, same holiday period. One place that GT6 may have an advantage on Halo 4 is the fact the last title released 3 years ago, but other than that, the comparison is far from "perfect".

LoL you did what?
You mentioned a wrong prediction of mine 4 years ago. When I asked you to post other examples you failed to deliver. Other than that you were making things up. Actually you made yourself look stupid in this thread. Twice.

And the GT5 vs Halo: Reach comparison would be the wrong one, because it is the first major release of the GT franchise this generation vs the second major release of the Halo franchise this generation. There is no point in discussing with you any further. You will spin things around and try to get away with it as always and it is getting old.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Halo

Their are only two ways to measure how big a franchise is. Profits and current audience size.

If talking about profits, then Halo is bigger.
If talking about audience size, then they're about equal.

We also need to be as current as possible. No point in using data from 2007 to make assertions about the present, when we have better data from 2010-present.

I don't think i've seen this asked yet, which series do people believe is more future proof? That is the biggest underlying factor to which is the biggest franchise.

Interesting. I'd say, right now, neither franchise has shown a serious decline in tallies. They're both strong for the future. Unless Halo 4 doesn't clear 10 million, which is highly unlikely, both are good to go.

Ditto. Both should have one or two 10M+ seller(s) next-gen

Not really.  Profit is relative to cost.    Audience size is based on potential audience size,  not how big a game is on a relative audience.  For example,  the United States is really the only place in the world that gobbles up Halo.  It's market is mostly saturated.  If there are 50,000,000 console sales in NA and Halo sells 10,000,000 of their copies in NA.   They have a reached a saturation point.   Conversely,  Gran Turismo has an audience base across the World.

If I were investing into the games,  Gran Turismo as an IP has a larger potential audience size currently.  Profit is relative to the cost spent in creation / marketing / etc.  I'd venture that Halo makes more profit by re-using engines, etc.  Although they spend a lot in marketing it heavily.

With that being said, the thread title is "Which is the bigger 1st party exclusive" that has to go to Halo.   Not even trolling but I mean Halo comprises most Xbox purchases.  I don't know anyone that would have bought an original Xbox without Halo or  anyone that would have bought a 360 without Halo 3.    And we all know Microsoft has been whoring out the Halo series multiple times this generation.   In short form,  Halo is the only first party game realistically that Microsoft has.  With their lack of first party studios and lack of many other first party games,  Halo is obviously a bigger 1st party exclusive for MS.

uhh...so do you agree about profit or what?

I said current audience size. You can talk about "potential" audience size if you want, but I've rarely ever heard anyone use that to determine how big a game is.

Besides, GT's audience size has been relatively stagnant for the past fifteen years, while Halo has been rising. If anything, GT has reached market saturation, while Halo has more potential to grow.

If your definition of "bigger" means "more significant to Microsoft/Sony", then yes, Halo is bigger. But that's a poor argument....the OP isn't asking which is more important for it's relative publisher.

So 8 Halo games sold as much as 4 GT games, looks like GT is more successful. Imagine if it was as heavy bundled as Halo though, GT wouldve sold way more.
