i get what your saying, but the thread is about what do you think about them, its not about whether they are developers or publishers |
I gave my opinion on that, They have a good eye for picking up great devs.

My first comment was my point, Sony Computer Entertainment is just a publisher they don't make the games just market them. |
Sony became a developer the second they created internal development. SCE is a developer as well as a publisher and there are branches therin. This is not an argument really.

What games did they develop?

Are you serious?
God of War, MLB the Show, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Gran Turismo, Mod Nation Racers, Singstar, Eyetoy development team and more. Uncharted would've never existed without Sonys direction upon Naughty Dog unless you like Lord of the Rings games.
The japanese ones except GT are developed in-house. Gravity rush, shadow of the colossus, ico, legend of dragoon, etc.

When Lost Boys got purchased by Sony they were restructered and had their name changed to Guerilla games, signifying that they focus on what genre? You guessed it! Shooters! |
Fair enough. But My opinion still stands on the fact that they have a good eye on picking up good devs with a few internally developed studio's like Sony Santa Monica.

Polyphony was created by Sony just like Turn Ten was created by Microsoft.

Sony finds developers who share their vision of gaming. Look up any Sony internal studio video, most of the devs that they buy have a very artistic, cinematic and epic way of seeing game development, which i why it only makes sense. Sonys development pattern for teenagers mirror that of pixar.

Uncharted has taken over God of War as Sonys 2nd biggest franchise, and they now have a bunch of B Tier and C Tier games to plug holes in dry months. Naughty Dog is now one of the highest rated developers on the market and the creativity of Media Molecule is 2nd to none. |
Correction, "Uncharted has taken over God of War as Sonys 2nd biggest franchise". No it hasn't. The God of War series is at 23.5+ million sold vs 17.5+ million and the biggest GoW is bigger than the biggest UC. Ratchet and Clank at 22.5+ million is the 3rd biggest Playstation franchise with Uncharted at 4th.
As for Sony Computer entertainment overall? I am mostly positive.
Sony Santa Monica, Medica Melocule and Naughty Dog are 3 of the most acclaimed developers in the industry and I love GoW 1,2,3 and LBP 1,2 and really liked UC2 & Resistance 3 is vastly underrated and unappreciated. Since 1989 only now can ND be considered one of the highest rated developers, they never really had a big hit with the critics before 2009 so they really improved this generation. Media Molecule is a great new developer to Sony, Guerrilla Games have hugely improved, Sucker Punch was a good acquisition and they have a good relationship with Quantic Dreams. Polyphony's Gran Turismo and Sony Santa Monica's God of War are both genre defining series. That could become 3 if The Last of Us lives up to the hype and re-defines survial horrow games or maybe even 4 if UC overtakes Gears in the future. That's up to 4 potentially genre defining exclusive series which is great for Sony... (they need a good WRPG series)
I think Infamous 1 & 2, Killzone 2 & 3, GT5, Ratchet & Clank ToD & ACiT, God of War: Ascension, Heavy Rain, Wipeout, Motorstorm, Uncharted 1 & 3, Resistance 1 & 2 and Heavenly Sword are all at least good with some that are great.
I don't care for pretentious artsy nonsense like Flower and Journey but they have thier fans. The only Sony made games I think are weak this generation is Socom 4 & Tokyo Jungle (I'm probably forgetting some, can't include Haze which is one of the worst games I've ever played).
I don't think Sony Japan studios have released a single notable game this generation, they have dropped the ball hard there. Doesn't bother me personally but I bet a lot of people on the internet are outraged at their poor output this gen.

Two words: Crash Brandicoot. That game sold on par with Mario today. If only Sony would've kept the Ip because the game was developed under them.
