Correction, "Uncharted has taken over God of War as Sonys 2nd biggest franchise". No it hasn't. The God of War series is at 23.5+ million sold vs 17.5+ million and the biggest GoW is bigger than the biggest UC. Ratchet and Clank at 22.5+ million is the 3rd biggest Playstation franchise with Uncharted at 4th. As for Sony Computer entertainment overall? I am mostly positive. Sony Santa Monica, Medica Melocule and Naughty Dog are 3 of the most acclaimed developers in the industry and I love GoW 1,2,3 and LBP 1,2 and really liked UC2 & Resistance 3 is vastly underrated and unappreciated. Since 1989 only now can ND be considered one of the highest rated developers, they never really had a big hit with the critics before 2009 so they really improved this generation. Media Molecule is a great new developer to Sony, Guerrilla Games have hugely improved, Sucker Punch was a good acquisition and they have a good relationship with Quantic Dreams. Polyphony's Gran Turismo and Sony Santa Monica's God of War are both genre defining series. That could become 3 if The Last of Us lives up to the hype and re-defines survial horrow games or maybe even 4 if UC overtakes Gears in the future. That's up to 4 potentially genre defining exclusive series which is great for Sony... (they need a good WRPG series) I think Infamous 1 & 2, Killzone 2 & 3, GT5, Ratchet & Clank ToD & ACiT, God of War: Ascension, Heavy Rain, Wipeout, Motorstorm, Uncharted 1 & 3, Resistance 1 & 2 and Heavenly Sword are all at least good with some that are great. I don't care for pretentious artsy nonsense like Flower and Journey but they have thier fans. The only Sony made games I think are weak this generation is Socom 4 & Tokyo Jungle (I'm probably forgetting some, can't include Haze which is one of the worst games I've ever played). I don't think Sony Japan studios have released a single notable game this generation, they have dropped the ball hard there. Doesn't bother me personally but I bet a lot of people on the internet are outraged at their poor output this gen. |
Two words: Crash Brandicoot. That game sold on par with Mario today. If only Sony would've kept the Ip because the game was developed under them.
