Some things arent fair, and to try to make it fair only means your trying to twist and create a comparison from chaos, no better then what I or he is trying to do. There is nothing wrong with comparing IP to IP sales. Your perspective is ok too.

No it's about forming valid comparisons.

You are cherry-picking sales - i.e. chosing an arbitrary time frame to reference the sales of an entire franchise whose sales extrend well beyond that specific time frame.

History does not end when you say it does, nor are sales that occurred prior to this generation obsolete.

If you want to do a franchise comparison, do one...but the valid one is one that doesn't cherry pick.

GT Franchise - 55.88

Halo Franchise -67.69

Now if you want to compare specific games, you do that in the appropriate way - by comparing their entire history.

i.e. GT5 sales vs. Forza 3 sales.

NOT 2012 GT5 sales vs 2012 Forza: Horizon sales

I myself, would limit comparisons to the current most generation in this case. You can't stop me and there is no rule that says I cant do that.

I could also do 2012 sales of IP vs IP if I so chose to as well. There. Is. No. Universal. Criteria.

In this thread case, I chose to pit GT5 against Halo 3, the best vs the best. Or as Jay put it, IP vs IP for the current gen.

 

I don't know how to make it any clearer. You are incapable of accepting different perspectives, and on top of that talk down to those who have one. I feel sorry if this attitude is present in the real world.

First of all GT5P was cheaper in Euros because it was $40 in American currency. When I played the two hour halloween expansion of Infamous: Festival of Blood it was guess what? $10 dollars (again...a price which is cheaper to you). ODST was a full priced game when it didnt need to be. Microsoft always goes for the gut even if they know they dont have a full product and it would've sold much more than it did if MS wouldn't priced it fairly. GT5 prologue was well worth the price with the amount of cars even though they had a shortage of tracks. Everyone knew the full game was coming eventually. People obviously thought the price of GT5P was fair because it sold pretty much double what Halo:ODST did. After ODST MS proved themselves to be no better than EA in their train of thought.

Ok, says the guy spending his day arguing about video game sales :P (as am I, but hey, im also working)

Maybe ill make a thread comparing Geometry Wars to GTA5. Maybe a detailed chart comparing Super Mario IP sales VS Killzone 3 only. Perhaps something about Fable: The Journey VS Pokemon Black and White 2 sales. I hope you see the point im trying to make.

Were done here, but if anything can be taken away from this, please be more strict of your definition of "nonsensical" and "having no logic".

I wish some people had your logic. These games should not be compared and are a testament to the strengths of their brand and nothing more. Microsoft has the best shooter and Sony has the best racer, plain and simple.
