Here we go, Nintendo trying to monopolize everything yet again!
Didn't they learn from their past mistakes before?
I also find iit pathetic that a billion dollar company refuses to let the little guy get a few measly cents for themselves
So fucking Greedy

thats where i disagree,  the big LP'ers make good money only relying on commentary and playing a game in which none of the rights belong to them and they capitalize on it. Some LP'ers make more money then the some game developers themselfs who work around the clock day and night to fullfill their duty in their part of the game. I would agree if the LP'ers got the rights from nintnedo or what ever company to use there games in order to collect revenue and advertise the companys software.

LPing has beome a market to make money on others property It ties no diffrent then a iphone mario rip off. An indivual is collecting income on content that is not theirs and made a minor twist to it and they claim it as there own i mean "show". If proper agreemants where in place like i said and nintendo gave the OK then id ont see a problem.

But since they bought the game, shouldn't we have the right to do whatever we want with it? I mean all their doing is sharing their game experiences with others, it would be really weird if Sony would do this since their next console is trying to promote gameplay sharing!

greedy as hell move by Nintendo

there is a diffrence between sharing a gaming experince and promoting a LP business, i dont think anyone saw it coming when Timmy o Tool bought a game for $60 and marketed his LP campaign to bring that gamefootage and commentary to +$10k plus, he bought it and it his game and he can share it how ever but not in the terms of making a mad amount of cash on it. I Love the game grumps but they generate huge cash income on just doing funny commentary their channel is pretty much a show marketed to gain money through add revenue and merchandise, its no long a game experince its making big money on your own show with content not authorized to use.

not greedy, its fighting a stealthy battle against a market in which no one think exsists and do see it as breaking copy rights. If i drew comics of mario its fine to share it. if i started to sell them as a business then its breaking copy right laws and not fair to the original creators.

It's their property, and they're free to use it as they see fit.

It's just a shame they're taking such a short-sighted and ultimately dumb approach to it.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

So you think that it would be okay to buy a game from them, copy it, and sell the copies?

People are still able to share the experiences and upload LP's, but they wont monetize on it.

Why should they monetize, though?  Also, it would have been greedy if Nintendo decided to remove all the videos instead in attempts to get people to buy the games instead if they wanted to see any of it.  This move isn't really so much greedy as it is a move you can expect from a company.

Erm...am I the only one that doesn't have a Scooby Doo what an LPer is..?

I'm with you on that part :(.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I knew there would be people boycotting Nintendo over this. It's that they're trying to monetize on other people doing LP series for games, taking that money from those people and even companies. Some of these LPers make their living doing this (as I know a few people on Twitch who make their living off of streaming), and Nintendo doing this is going to make things harder.

It isn't just the 3DS that costs money in order to record game footage, but even getting quality hardware to record footage from console games costs a lot of money. There have been plenty of games that I bought thanks to someone doing a LP or streaming, which I expect Nintendo to probably go after next if they did this.

The internet can be a good or bad thing for your big company, as news spreads like wildfire. This is bad publicity for them, especially with E3 around the corner and one of their big 3DS releases coming out in June in Animal Crossing. LPers will stop doing Nintendo games, which will probably result in that game not getting some extra exposure, which might end up with some lesser sales.

Do you think Nintendo will go after streaming services like Twitch or Ustream now?

This is one of the threads where i would like to be able to create a alternative reality where Sony and Microsoft do the same thing, just to compare the difference in some users reactions.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
